We’re looking for a thoughtful, organized, and relationship-oriented Director of Community Engagement and Programming. You’ll help strengthen the connections that make synagogue life meaningful. This role is at the heart of our community—welcoming new people, nurturing relationships, creating engaging programs, and sharing our vibrancy both in person and online.
This position works closely with clergy, professional staff, and lay leadership, reporting to the Executive Director.
Position Overview
The Director of Community Engagement and Programming plays a central role in fostering connection and belonging within our congregation. You’ll oversee programming, support membership relationships, and manage our social media presence and community communications.
The ideal candidate is a relationship builder and a skilled organizer. You’ll enjoy welcoming people into our Jewish community, coordinating events, and sharing the story of synagogue life through thoughtful communications.
Key Responsibilities
Programming and Community Events
Plan and coordinate congregational programs and events throughout the year with clergy, staff, and lay leaders.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Coordinating logistics for synagogue programs and gatherings, like Shabbat experiences, holiday events, and educational programming.
- Managing event timelines, logistics, vendors, and volunteer support.
- Maintaining the synagogue’s programming calendar and coordinating scheduling across departments.
- Driving publicity timelines around Temple calendar events, including banners, announcements, emails, and invitations.
- Supporting major congregational moments and events, including community celebrations and special programs.
- Ensuring events are welcoming, organized, and reflect our congregation’s values.
Membership Engagement and Community Relations
Be a welcoming presence for both prospective and current members, nurturing a strong sense of belonging.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Being the initial point of contact for membership inquiries and prospective families.
- Coordinating tours, meetings, and follow-ups with prospective members.
- Supporting new member onboarding and integration into congregational life.
- Maintaining regular contact with members and connecting individuals to programs and opportunities.
- Collaborating with clergy and staff to support membership engagement initiatives.
- Keeping accurate records of member interactions and engagement.
- Following up and coordinating potential resignations.
Social Media and Communications
Help share our congregation's story and vibrancy through thoughtful digital communications.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Managing our social media platforms and content calendar.
- Creating engaging posts, photos, graphics, and short-form video content.
- Capturing and organizing photos from events and programs.
- Promoting synagogue programs, events, and community highlights online.
- Collaborating with staff to ensure messaging reflects our community's life and values.
- Maintaining a photo library.
Collaboration and Administrative Support
This role works collaboratively across our synagogue’s professional and volunteer leadership.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Working closely with clergy and staff on program planning and communications.
- Supporting volunteer committees related to programming and membership engagement.
- Assisting with congregational communications as needed.
- Participating in regular staff meetings and contributing to overall synagogue planning.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
- Experience in event planning, community engagement, membership relations, or nonprofit programming.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging content.
- Comfort working collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Jewish community life, traditions, and holidays is highly valued.

Work Environment
This is a full-time, primarily in-person position in Valley Village. The role includes some evenings and weekends to support congregational programs, Shabbat gatherings, and Jewish holidays.
Compensation
Salary range is $70,500 to $82,000, depending on experience. The package includes employer-paid, platinum level health, dental, and life insurance, paid vacation, sick days, and holidays. FSA, long & short term disability, long term care insurance, vision, and other benefits are available.
