Congregation Beth Ahm is a Conservative synagogue in suburban Detroit, Michigan.  We are a forward-looking synagogue and investing in our future. The addition of an Associate Synagogue Director, who will serve as a key member of our professional team, is essential to advance the synagogue and help us achieve our goals. 

 

Job scope and responsibilities:

  • In coordination with the Executive Director, assist with the administrative functioning of the synagogue.
    • Serve as liaison to private event hosts and assist in the planning and implementation of these events.
    • Coordinate/lead and identify enhancements to select communication activities.
    • Strengthen the synagogue membership by helping new members transition into the congregation and by responding to the needs of members and guests.
    • Lead select building and maintenance projects.
    • Serve as the administrative lead for religious school by overseeing enrollment, coordinating the calendar, and interacting with teachers and parents.
    • Assist with High Holiday initiatives and be on-site to welcome guests and support other staff and holiday activities.
    • Serve as the on-site administrative lead on some Shabbatot and holidays.
  • In coordination with the synagogue’s programming staff, inspire members to join in the programming process and use creativity to develop innovative and meaningful programs that drive participation.
  • Help build positive and long-lasting relationships between individuals by coordinating opportunities for them to interact on a casual and personal level. 
  • Provide administrative support to ensure the functioning of daily minyan.
  • Identify, pursue, and/or represent Beth Ahm for partnered and collaborative programs.
  • Coordinate core job responsibilities and activity with other staff members to support the overall mission of the congregation.

 

A strong candidate will possess the following traits and abilities:

  • Substantial professional experience working in a Jewish environment (synagogue, camp, school, youth group, or other communal organization) with a focus on community building and member service.
  • Must be a dynamic and motivating leader with strong planning and creative skills.
  • Must have a high degree of schedule flexibility with the ability to work nights and weekends and be onsite for Shabbat and Holidays as needed.
  • Strong communication, social media, and interpersonal skills are required to interact with people of all ages.
  • Ability to multi-task combined with excellent organizational ability is needed to successfully handle multiple programs and engagement opportunities simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to foresee and correct problems before they happen is required.

 

Compensation: $65,000 - $80,000 plus a stipend for benefits
