SPECIAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES - Pisgah

Teacher - Pisgah

SAR Academy, a Modern Orthodox Day School in Riverdale, NY, is looking for a dynamic and talented Special Education teacher/associate teacher to join our Lower School Pisgah team (Grades 1-5) for the 2026-27 school year. Candidates must have experience providing academic support and remediation to students with language-based learning differences using evidence-based approaches. New York State (NYS) Certification in Special Education is required and experience teaching Judaic Studies preferred.

About Pisgah
Pisgah is an integrated program that allows for children to get the support of a full-time Special Education teacher, along with related providers, hired by SAR, while also allowing for students to be in a General Education classroom. This hybrid approach allows for strong peer models as well as the intensive support students may need. 

The SAR inclusion program serves students in K through Grade 7, embedded within a regular SAR classroom. Each group is supported by a special education teacher who functions as the central organizer of each student’s overall plan, and plays an important collaborative role with other teachers and the rest of the support team. 

Pisgah is committed to an individualized approach to learning disabilities, meaning that in each situation, an individualized educational plan is built that targets areas of challenge and builds areas of strength. In addition, Pisgah is committed to understanding and treating the hidden disabilities that interfere with academic growth by providing goal-directed, explicit instruction in the areas that are most needed, including language development, emotional regulation, peer relationships and executive functioning.

 Responsibilities:

  • Develop and differentiate curricular materials in collaboration with teaching team
  • Provide direct academic and organizational support to students within the class and in small groups 
  • Establish and implement individualized learning plans
  • Monitor and assess student progress toward learning objectives and adapt instruction to address changing needs
  • Communicate with parents about student progress and goals

Qualifications:

  •  Understanding of social, emotional, and cognitive development
  •  Experience employing various methodologies for teaching students with learning differences
  •  Strong ability to connect with children and develop an atmosphere of mutual respect
  •  Problem-solving and collaboration skills
  •  Creative, flexible, and open-minded approach to teaching
  •  Working knowledge of educational technology tools to maximize student engagement and to differentiate instruction
  •  Master's Degree in Special Education (or pursuing)
  •  NYS Certification in Special Education preferred

Salary: $70,000-$85,000
Salary commensurate with experience.

Pisgah Special Education Assistant Teacher
SAR Academy, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational day school in Riverdale, NY is now accepting resumes for Assistant Teachers in the Pisgah Program for the 2026-2027 school year in Kindergarten and Lower School (grades 1-5).

Pisgfah Special Education Occupational Therapist 
The Pisgah program at SAR Academy is looking for a full-time licensed Occupational Therapist for the 2026–2027 school year to work within our Lower and Middle School divisions.

Pisgah is SAR’s integrated support program, which combines the need for intensive support with the benefits of learning as part of the whole-school community. Pisgah offers children the support of a full-time Special Education teacher, along with related service providers, while also allowing them to learn in a General Education classroom. This hybrid approach allows for strong peer models as well as the intensive support a student may need. Pisgah is the Hebrew word for summit and reflects SAR’s commitment to ensuring that students are given the support they need to climb their own personal mountain and reach their own personal summit in an educationally and socially supportive community environment.

The Pisgah Occupational Therapist works closely with other members of the Pisgah team, composed of Pisgah Special Education teachers and assistants, psychologists, and Speech-Language Pathologists. The Occupational Therapist will play an important role in supporting students’ fine motor development, sensory processing, self-regulation, and participation in classroom routines and academic tasks. The OT will provide both direct services and consultative support to teachers and staff, helping students access the curriculum and develop the functional skills needed for success in school.

Experience supporting students with sensory regulation, fine and visual motor development, handwriting, executive functioning, and adaptive skills is strongly preferred. Familiarity with school-based service delivery models, collaborative consultation with teachers, and interpreting occupational therapy evaluations is important.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a full-time caseload of students
  • Provide individual and small group occupational therapy sessions
  • Provide push-in support in classrooms to assist students in accessing academic and daily school activities
  • Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and contribute to the development of individualized goals and intervention plans
  • Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Collaborate with Pisgah teachers to support students’ sensory, motor, and functional needs in the classroom
  • Provide strategies and consultation to teachers and assistants to support student participation and independence
  • Collaborate with parents and communicate regularly regarding student progress
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and complete bi-annual Progress Reports for each student on the caseload
