Role Overview

Enrich the lives of hundreds of college students as the Engagement and Communications Associate as a member of a great staff team at UMass Hillel. In this role you will engage students meaningfully in Jewish life and community by building relationships, managing key programs, advising student groups, and promoting Hillel through a range of communication channels. Your work will include a focus on developing student leaders and building community among first-year students.

The Engagement and Communications Associate is a natural relationship-builder with a love for Judaism, who brings creativity and technological savviness to Hillel. You will oversee digital communications as it relates to student engagement and sharing of the student experience, including managing email newsletters and social media.

The Engagement and Communications Associate reports to the Assistant Director and is an integral member of a dynamic and caring staff team. What You’ll Do

Student Engagement & Program Management:

  • Build relationships with students by meeting them where they’re at, such as attending on-campus events and meetings, tabling, one-on-one coffee conversations, facilitating small group discussions, staffing immersive experiences, and developing new and creative initiatives. 
  • Support UMass Hillel’s Student Leadership Collective by working with the Assistant Director to create a cohesive student leader experience, and run or curate relevant trainings and workshops.
  • Manage freshmen engagement, including overseeing the FreshFest pre-orientation program for first year students and creating opportunities for freshmen to connect to Jewish life and each other throughout the year.
  • Advise Jewish student groups, empowering them to enact their missions and plan dynamic programs.
  • Recruit and supervise student interns. 

Communications and Online Engagement:

  • Develop and implement digital and print marketing plans to promote Hillel opportunities and to engage students in Hillel initiatives.
  • Manage “News4Jews” weekly eblasts, social media, creation of digital content such as videos and flyers, and website support.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • 0-2 years professional work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Natural ability to connect with a wide range of students.
  • A team mindset and strong communication skills.
  • Experience using social media for marketing and publicity, creating graphic design content and email marketing (such as Constant Contact or Mailchimp).
  • Excellent writing skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Confidence in organizing events or group programs, and a willingness to ask questions.
  • Creative problem solving.
  • Passion for Jewish life.

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace: the salary range for this position is $38,000-$42,000.
