ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:

Congregation B'nai Tikvah is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue on the North Shore of Chicago. Our goal is to provide a Jewish home for our congregants emphasizing joy and meaningful engagement. With a collaborative staff and clergy we seek to provide spiritual, educational and social offerings for our over 460 family units.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are currently looking for a Director of Education. This senior position oversees our K-7th Religious School and our Youth Programming. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

School Curriculum & Programming

  • Create, oversee, implement, and evaluate Religious School on Sundays and Weekdays for grades K-6.
  • Plan, supervise and lead school events including, but not limited to; formal and informal education/programs, assemblies, open houses, conferences, holiday celebrations, Shabbat and dinners.
  • Develop and implement a Family Education Program that emphasizes the importance of family participation in religious education.
  • Assist in B'nai Mitzvah and Teen programs alongside Clergy, Executive Director and Programming team

Faculty Leadership

  • Manage full scope of professional staff including Madrichim and substitute teachers.
  • Teach class as needed.
  • Prepare a school calendar, annual class schedule, teacher assignments and class curriculum/goals.
  • Conduct faculty meetings, professional development and evaluations of all school staff.

Students & Families

  • Welcome, place, and support every student in the religious school and Hebrew tutoring program, including learners with diverse needs.
  • Partner with families on student progress, engagement, and any challenges - with warmth, responsiveness and professionalism.
  • Build genuine relationships with students and parents inside and outside the classroom, and attend new and prospective member events.

Operations & Collaboration

  • Manage the school calendar, communication to parents, school records, materials, and classroom logistics.
  • Partner with the Executive Director on the annual youth and education budget; oversee school safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with clergy, the programming team, VP of Youth and Education on synagogue-wide programs.
  • Report to the School Committee and the Synagogue Board of Directors on school operations and planning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Jewish education, teaching, school management, youth programming or related fields preferred.
  • Deep love and passion for Jewish education.
  • Experience supervising educators and/or managing programs.
  • Prior knowledge of Judaic studies, holidays, Jewish values.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

STRUCTURE, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Full time position. Note that work schedule may vary depending on time of year. Availability for Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Shabbat morning and occasional other nights and weekend programs required.
  • In-office position based in Deerfield, Illinois
  • Salary Range $94,000-$100,000- based on experience
  • Paid Time Off (vacation, sick days, and holidays)
  • Total Compensation Package includes benefit stipend, cell phone reimbursement and professional development opportunities.
