Position Overview
At the heart of this role is people.
The Director of Engagement will help shape the rhythm and relationships of daily life at CBS. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with clergy, staff, and lay leaders, this person will design meaningful experiences and build authentic connections that bring our community to life.
We are looking for a relational engager who is deeply community-minded, warm, and naturally engaging—someone who takes joy in connecting with others, remembers names and stories, and understands that small gestures can make a big difference. This is a role for a person who is not only organized and creative, but also genuinely cares about people and is dedicated to helping each individual and family feel seen, welcomed, and valued.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Membership
- Serve as a welcoming and visible presence in the community, building relationships across all ages and stages of life
- Lead efforts around member recruitment, onboarding, and retention with a focus on connection and belonging
- Reach out to prospective and current members with warmth and intention
- Listen closely to community needs and track member engagement and satisfaction
- Help cultivate a culture of care, ensuring congregants feel supported, connected, and valued
Programming & Community Experience
- Create and oversee a dynamic, thoughtful calendar of programs that bring people together in meaningful ways
- Plan and execute Jewish educational, social, and spiritual experiences that reflect the values and energy of CBS in partnership with our clergy and professional team
- Build vibrant programming for young families, helping them develop their place within the community
- Lead and support youth and teen engagement, fostering connection and identity
- Partner with and guide volunteer committees, empowering congregants to take an active role in community life
- Support and help host Shabbat and holiday experiences, including meals and gatherings that are welcoming
- Help sustain cherished traditions such as Kiddush and communal celebrations
- Oversee Hesed efforts, strengthening the ways we care for one another as a community
Operations & Collaboration
- Bring ideas to life from concept through execution with care and attention to detail
- Work closely with clergy, staff, and lay leaders to ensure alignment and shared vision
- Help create experiences that feel seamless, welcoming, and meaningful
Qualifications
- A naturally warm, approachable, and community-oriented presence
- A genuine love of working with people and building relationships
- Ability to create environments where others feel comfortable, included, and inspired to participate
- Enjoy the ability to work independently and take ownership over their work
- Relevant leadership experience in Jewish programming, engagement, or community-building
- Previous work with children and young families preferred
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent communication skills across formats
- Comfort with technology and digital tools for engagement
- A proactive, flexible, and collaborative mindset
- Professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail
Schedule & Expectations
- Full-time position with a flexible schedule
- Availability for evenings, Sundays, Jewish holidays, and regular Shabbat programming
Compensation Package & Benefits
- Salary and Housing (if needed) to total $90,000 - $100,000, commensurate with experience
- Additional benefits include medical coverage, paid time off, parental leave, and two days off per week
