Congregation-Emek Shalom:
Compensation Range $85,000-$100,000


Reform synagogue of 225 families in the heart of Connecticut’s Farmington Valley, between New York City and Boston, seeks an energetic, creative, and inspirational clergy member and educator to lead our lifelong learning programs, and to share pastoral duties and actively support our Rabbi. FVJC, under the leadership of Rabbi Rebekah Goldman, is a warm, diverse, welcoming, and innovative congregation with committed lay leadership and a growing school serving approximately 60 students.


Responsibilities include:
I. Director of Lifelong Learning
- Implementing the overall vision of our Religious School
- Leading all aspects of FVJC’s religious school
    a) Creating a culture of warmth and meaningful learning in the religious school and all educational programs
    b) Updating and implementing innovative school curricula, both in person and expanding to online
    c) Supervising, leading, and mentoring faculty and enhancing professional development
    d) Overseeing the administration, management, and communication of our religious school
    e) Using technology in support of student programming and learning
    f) Leading and expanding our virtual religious school pilot for children and families
- Strengthening, developing, and implementing innovative educational and social programming for youth and teens including community service/social action activities
- Coordinating all aspects of the B’nai Mitzvah program, including individual student prayer preparation
- Developing and leading the implementation of a lifelong learning strategy that engages all segments of our congregation from youth to seniors

II. Assistant Clergy
- Partnering with Rabbi Bekah to provide religious and pastoral leadership in our community
- Supporting leadership for Shabbat Services and Holidays as required, including welcoming congregants, chanting of Torah, leading prayers, and giving sermons as needed
- Developing relationships with congregants, and proactively engaging new and prospective members with a particular focus on youth, young adults, and young families
- Covering for Rabbi Bekah in her absence, including officiating at various life cycle events for congregants
- Supporting Rabbi Bekah and our Strategic Planning Committee/Board in creating innovative programs and events that attract new members from both inside and outside of our geographic area

Desirable skills and attributes include:
- Ordained member of clergy
- Proficiency in Hebrew, Torah/Haftarah trop, and use of technology
- Exceptional people skills and ability to offer meaningful comfort to those in need
- Experience in Education and Pastoral Counseling
- Ability and willingness to effectively partner with Rabbi Bekah and lay leaders
- Innovative, energetic, and able to relate to diverse membership with varying levels of knowledge and observance
