Temple Beth Israel in Plattsburgh, NY is seeking a Cantor, Student Cantor or Cantorial Soloist to join our rabbi in leading our congregation in prayers during our 2026/5786 High Holy Days observance.
We are a small Reform Jewish congregation with 70 member families led by our full-time spiritual leader, Rabbi David Joslin. The temple is located just north of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains near Lake Champlain and the Saranac River. Our synagogue is a vital resource for Jewish life in Northeastern New York. We welcome diverse traditions and lifestyles into our congregational family and offer a meaningful Jewish experience to all who enter our doors.
We are in search of a cantor, student cantor or cantorial soloist with a pleasant singing voice whose cantorial style invites congregants to participate in the service. We will be using a combination of Shabbat melodies, traditional High Holiday melodies, and a few more contemporary choices without any accompaniment of musical instruments. Familiarity with Reform services is a plus; our services are from Mishkan Hanefesh, the new Reform machzor. Our services are presented both in person and virtually as well.
Time required for the following High Holy Days services:
Afternoon and evening services, including Yiskor, starting at 4PM (3 - 4 hours)
Compensation is $6,000. The compensation will be considered all-inclusive and includes travel and lodging expenses.
