The SCHECHTER SCHOOL of LONG ISLAND (www.schechterli.org) is a Jewish Day School in Nassau County, New York, known for small classes, a rigorous academic program, including Regents and AP classes, and a warm nurturing environment.
We are seeking a full-time Upper School Jewish Studies Teacher for the 2026-27 academic year as well as maternity leave replacement for Fall 2026.
Upper School Jewish Studies Teachers
Candidates will be team oriented and should:
- Possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree; a teaching credential from an accredited institution (North America or Israel) is preferred.
- Demonstrate good classroom management skills.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and commitment to keeping parents informed and engaged.
- Be experienced in teaching Tefillah, Tanakh and Rabbinics, and be able to use original texts for classroom instruction.
- As a Jewish Studies Teacher, you will have the opportunity to inspire students to engage deeply with Judaic texts, traditions, and values while fostering critical thinking and a love for learning. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about creating an engaging and meaningful learning environment and in shaping the spiritual and intellectual development of their students.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Teach five classes that each meet every other day, for a total of 15 blocks in a 6-day cycle; Create and implement lessons and assessments consistent with course content and objectives. Provide thoughtful and timely feedback on student work and update online gradebook (RenWeb) and Google Classroom on a regular basis.
- Establish a connection with students, providing mentorship and guidance in their spiritual and academic journeys.
- Collaborate with other Judaic Studies teachers to enhance the overall curriculum and student experience.
- Attend scheduled department, faculty, and professional development meetings and participate in school events during and after school hours
- Supervise daily Shacharit service.
Job Types: 1 Full-time, 1 Contract Maternity Leave
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
