Executive Director

Summary 

The Executive Director is responsible for the congregation’s administrative, financial, and business operations in addition to supporting the congregation’s religious and membership services. This position has direct interface with rabbinic colleagues, committee chairs, congregants, prospective members and others in establishing and enhancing the spiritual community. The Executive Director serves as CBE’s “Chief Operating Officer” and membership director (with volunteer support).

Reports to: Board of Trustees 

Essential Functions

Strategic Management

• Work with the Rabbi, staff and Board on strategic visioning and short- and long-term planning for future growth
• Provide operational assessment of initiatives that considers staff impact 
• Identify processes and policies that elevate CBE’s performance, and oversee the adoption of these changes among staff and membership

Communications, Membership, and Development

• Develop a cohesive communications and branding strategy that strengthens CBE’s identity and engages members and the broader community
• Assist in creating marketing that promotes programs, fundraisers, and lifecycle events
• Represent and market CBE to prospective and current members and students to increase individuals’ personal and financial engagement
• Liaison with key community partners such as the Reconstructionist affiliation, Rose Community Foundation, JewishColorado, etc.
• Liaise with the Development Committee to execute the development strategy
• Support annual event committees with logistics, information, marketing and taking and managing registrations
• Research new grants, assist on grant-writing, and track/report on grant expenditures 

Programming and Events

• Act as interface with Programming and other relevant Committees 
• Provide leadership for the vision, planning, and overall success of key community events
• Support programs and events, which will at times require working outside of standard weekday work hours, including evenings, weekends, and seasonal peaks
• Ensure strong operational systems and processes are in place so programs and events run smoothly, delegating logistics to staff and volunteers

Facilities Management and Building Security

• Ensures safety and security procedures are updated and communicated periodically.
• Oversees enforcement and facilitates carrying out periodic drills.  
• Coordinates with maintenance providers as needed.
• Acts as liaison to and between all building tenants; informs leadership of issues that emerge; remind board leadership of contract dates (renewal periods)  

Additional Functions

Financial Management   

• Oversee budgeting, financial tracking, and reporting in partnership with the Finance Committee and Board Treasurer
• Provide regular reports to the Board of Trustees
• Manage membership dues, donations, and pledge fulfillment with integrity

Human Resource and Volunteer Management

• Establish systems and procedures for volunteer recruitment, training, and effort tracking
• Liaise with key committees (e.g., finance, membership, development, mitzvah) and maintain regular contact with volunteers 
• Assist committees in planning and executing their activities and events
• Coordinate with Religious School Director and pre-school Director to ensure programming needs are being met and well executed

• Customer service orientation with high empathy and emotional intelligence.
• Must be available on weekends and weeknights to attend CBE events and meetings.
• Ability to appropriately and effectively delegate and ensure delegated tasks are effectively completed in a timely manner
• Strong ability to supervise direct reports and effectively “manage” congregational lay leaders and volunteers
• Responsive and demonstrates ability to promptly follow-up in a timely manner. 
• Maintains confidentiality in sensitive situations and engages with a broad range of people with sensitivity, respect, compassion and confidentiality.

Education and Experience

• An earned degree from an accredited institution of higher education (required);
• Relevant Master’s degree or certificate in non-profit management (preferred); 
• At least five years of demonstrated leadership at a senior level (preferred); 
• Familiarity with Jewish ritual, holiday, and life-cycle traditions, and/or experience working for or volunteering with a Jewish service organization (strongly preferred)

Hours and Compensation 

• Salary range: $50,000 - 80,000, depending on experience and qualifications, with potential for bonus (tied to fundraising targets).
• The proposed position is for 30-35 hours per week, not including special events and fulfilling needs on site at scheduled congregational events. 
• Hybrid work schedule, maximizing in office time for face-to-face engagement with members, staff meetings, prospective members.
