One Israel Fund is the premier North American non-profit providing humanitarian aid to the Jewish communities situated in the Biblical Heartland areas of Judea and Samaria in Israel. Funding upwards of 200 unique projects annually, One Israel Fund’s impact is felt directly in every community as well as the border communities in the north and south of the country.
The controller will play a crucial role in managing the financial health of One Israel Fund. This position Is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with nonprofit standards, and supporting the organization in its mission through effective financial management. The ideal candidate will have experience with QuickBooks and financial reporting, along with a strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles.
The controller is required to be on-site and is located in the Five Towns of Long Island.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Financial Management
- Oversee the organization's financial books, ensuring they are maintained in accordance with
nonprofit accounting standards.
- Collaborate with the accountant to ensure accurate coding and classification of all financial
transactions.
QuickBooks Administration
- Manage the QuickBooks system to track and record all financial transactions.
- Implement improved coding practices for incoming and outgoing funds to enhance reporting
accuracy.
- Integrate QuickBooks system with CRM software (currently DonorPerfect) and manage the ongoing reconciliation between the two programs.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare and present financial reports, including budgets, donor reports from CRM, to clarify the classification of funds (operations vs projects).
- Work closely with the accountant to ensure all financial reports are precise and readily accessible formanagement review.
Expense Management
- Process all wire transactions for projects overseas and ensure all documentation is received and filed appropriately.
- Review credit card statements, ensuring all expenses are properly coded and accounted.
- Digitally save all invoices for easy retrieval during audit.
- Cut checks for all organizational expenditures while maintaining detailed records for auditing
purposes.
Audit Support
- Assist in the preparation for annual audits by providing necessary documentation and financial
records to auditors.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and standards for nonprofit financial practices.
Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments to ensure alignment of financial practices with organizational goals and project funding.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to the Executive VP and Trustees as needed.
General Tasks
- Maintain financial records in an organized and accessible manner.
- Assist in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
- Monitor cash flow and prepare forecasts to support organizational planning.
- Participate in financial strategy discussions and contribute to the overall financial health of the
organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Proven experience in nonprofit accounting and financial management. Knowledge of IRS 990 form preferred.
- Proficient in QuickBooks and familiar with DonorPerfect or similar CRM program.
- Ability to multitask numerous projects with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
