High Holiday Cantor

Egalitarian, Conservative synagogue in Northern Virginia seeks a chazzan, a cantorial student or a cantorial soloist to create and facilitate a meaningful, participatory High Holiday experience under the direction of our Rabbi.  

Our ideal candidate is warm, approachable and respectful of the minhag of our congregation.  In addition to a knowledge of traditional liturgy, our candidate possesses the skills to teach and integrate innovative melodies. We seek a candidate to lead with kavanah and ruach.

Our candidate will share responsibilities with our corps of lay service leaders and is expected to be available for planning and programming prior to the High Holidays.  Home hospitality near our shul is available; there are also hotels within driving distance if the candidate prefers.

All candidates should submit a recording. The recording should include an example of traditional nusach as well as a new contemporary melody that you might teach to our congregation.
