Location: Temple Emanuel, Newton, MA

Program: Kesher Afterschool Program

Schedule:

  • Mondays: 1:30 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Wednesdays: 11:30 AM – 6:00 PM

About the Program

Temple Emanuel’s Kesher Afterschool Program is a warm, engaging, Hebrew-immersive Jewish learning environment for children in Kindergarten through Grade 5. We blend language, culture, and community through play, learning, and meaningful Jewish experiences.

Position Overview

We are seeking a caring, energetic, and responsible individual to join our team as an assistant teacher in our Hebrew-immersive afterschool program. This role involves both classroom and supervisory responsibilities, supporting children’s social, emotional, and educational growth in a nurturing Jewish setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Walking Group Leader: Safely lead a supervised walking group from a nearby public school to Temple Emanuel.
  • Afterschool Supervision: Oversee playtime, snack time, transitions between activities, and arrival & dismissal.
  • Assistant Teacher: Assist in teaching a Hebrew language class using immersive and interactive methods and a Judaics class in English.
  • Substitute Teaching: Serve as an in-house substitute teacher when needed.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other educators and staff to create a positive and inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; some college or a college degree preferred.
  • Spoken Hebrew is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with children in educational or informal settings is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • We will assist you in becoming certified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
