The Director of Arts, Learning and Worship is an integral member of the Education and Engagement team and an active partner with other Temple professionals, clergy, lay leaders and members. This position reports to the Director of Congregational Engagement. In partnership with lay leader committees, this person is responsible for visioning, creating and producing diverse learning and cultural experiences for our members. This position cultivates and manages all congregant engagement within our weekly worship services, and helps connect people to small groups, classes, and programs through relationship building, listening and curiosity.

Areas of Responsibility:
- Partner with clergy and lay leaders to create opportunities for congregants to engage more deeply in spiritual and worship experiences.
- Meet weekly with clergy teams who are officiating each weekly Shabbat experience.
- Work with Communications Dept. to keep website, slides and calendars up to date with information about all spiritual and worship experiences.
- Invite, confirm, and prepare all lay participants in all Shabbat services.
- Primary liaison with Production Director.
Ongoing Adult Learning Opportunities
- Responsible for working with lay committees and clergy advisers on the visioning, planning and executing of all adult learning offerings.
- Build relationships with our learners, helping them to engage more deeply in Jewish learning.
- Oversee conversion program, including Intro to Judaism and Choosing Judaism, work with faculty and students throughout the conversion process, cultivate relationships to help integrate students in the larger Temple and Jewish community.
- Maintain budgets for various programs.
Visiting Scholars, Guest Speakers, and Musical Artists
- Responsible for working with lay committees and clergy liaisons on the visioning, planning and executing of guests throughout the year.
- Collaborate with other committees and staff to plan events and integrate them into various aspects of Temple life and demographics.
- Maintain budget for various programs.
- Remain informed about the national pulse of Jewish learning, worship, music arts and culture, including within the Reform movement and beyond.
- Experiment with different modalities of engagement.

The work of education and engagement is the primary function of all staff members, clergy, and lay leadership at Temple, as we strive to help every Temple member (and prospective member) develop a connection between other congregants, friends, family, Jewish community, Jewish people, the world, and God. Staff will help connect members with aspects of synagogue life that meet their spiritual and communal needs, through our core values of Prayer, Learning, Israel, Social Justice and Community. Members of the Engagement & Education Team are partners with clergy, lay leadership, and each other. We value each other’s opinions, respect each other’s time and pitch in during crunch times. Engagement & Education Team Members Share Responsibility For:
Holiday & Shabbat Celebrations –
- Staffing of Shabbat and holiday services are distributed and shared among members of Temple staff. Work with appropriate staff and clergy to support Shabbat worship when agreed upon with your supervisor.
- Collaborate with volunteer committees, clergy liaison and other staff to plan and implement various holiday celebrations throughout the year. Specific holiday responsibilities are distributed and shared among members of Temple staff.
Leadership & Relationship Cultivation –
- Communicate and interact regularly with other teams and a wide array of members to build relationships and engage individuals in congregational life and leadership responsibilities.
- Coordinate with lay leaders, clergy, and staff to set goals in your areas of responsibility and translate them into action.
- Contribute toward the identification and cultivation of future Temple leaders.
Website & Communications –
- Utilize Temple, community communication and marketing tools to maximize access to Temple programming, including coordination with partner organizations.
- Maintain engagement opportunities and other pertinent information on the Temple website.
Salary ~ $55,000 - $62,000
