Through our tiered programs and training, volunteers learn to identify threats and proactively safeguard their synagogues, institutions, and events. We have trained thousands of volunteers across denominations and regions in the United States on situational awareness and operational security.
Position Summary
The Regional Director, Training and Security, supports the delivery and growth of CSS training programs across the Los Angeles region. Reporting administratively to the Senior Vice President, Training and Security, and in day-to-day matters to the Regional Director, Greater Los Angeles, this role is responsible for training volunteers, building and supporting a regional cadre of volunteer trainers, and supporting congregation recruitment efforts. Additionally, this role will be involved in providing general security consultation to CSS volunteers and organizations to enhance all aspects of safety and security across the Jewish community. The ideal candidate combines operational security experience, proven instructional capability and a commitment to protecting the Jewish community.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver CSS training programs to volunteers and congregations throughout the Greater Los Angeles region, maintaining fidelity to national CSS standards and curriculum.
- Identify, recruit, develop, and oversee volunteer trainers within the region; conduct ongoing quality assurance and mentorship to ensure instructional consistency.
- Support the Regional Director in recruiting and onboarding new congregations, including delivering introductory briefings and assessing site security needs.
- Schedule, coordinate, and document training sessions, tracking attendance, certification status, and skill progression.
- Provide post-training feedback and remedial support to volunteers as needed.
- Provide operational security consultation to CSS volunteers and organizations.
- Support in the development ofnational SOPs and training courses.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum three years in Israeli or American law enforcement, military, or governmental or private security role, with responsibilities involving security operations, emergency response, risk assessment, protective security, or operational planning.
- Minimum three years in an instructional/training role, developing and delivering content to law enforcement, military, or private security personnel, developing and delivering training programs for law enforcement, military, governmental, or private security personnel, including classroom instruction, practical exercises, and scenario-based training.
- Demonstrated strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles region and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel anywhere in the US to support CSS Training and Security programs, as directed by the Senior Vice President, Training and Security
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in combat sports or martial arts (e.g., Krav Maga, boxing, BJJ, MMA).
- Familiarity with the Jewish community and synagogue operations.
- Experience with volunteer-based or community security programs.
Selection Process
Candidates will complete a multi-stage selection process that includes a background and reference review, multiple interviews, and a practical training-and-instructing assessment in which the candidate demonstrates the ability to deliver CSS-style instruction and manage a live training scenario.
Other considerations
Must live in the Los Angeles area and must be eligible to work in the US. This position is hybrid, and the selectee will be expected to work in the Los Angeles office 1-2 days per week, and should be available for occasional evening and weekend work. Moderate travel should be expected as needed; up to 25% to support other regions.
This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range between $125k - $140k commensurate with experience and based on location; benefits are competitive. CSS offers a competitive benefits package including health insurance, dental insurance, and paid time off.
