Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation (NVHC) is searching for a dependable, energetic individual to guide our 5th grade students along their Jewish educational journeys. You will be responsible for planning and implementing engaging lessons that focus on Jewish lifecycle events, incorporating Jewish holidays, values, and Torah stories in a Reform Jewish context. The ideal candidate should be passionate about Jewish community and have experience working with children.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare lessons in accordance with the curriculum guidelines.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Assess and monitor student progress to ensure understanding of materials and achievement of learning objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress, behavior, and concerns.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to coordinate activities and events that enhance the Hebrew School experience.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to improve teaching skills and stay updated on educational trends and practices.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching Jewish studies preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Reform Jewish history, culture, holidays, and traditions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for teaching children.

Hours: 9:00am-12:00pm Sunday mornings, plus 30 minutes of lesson planning time per week, plus trainings throughout the year.

Compensation: Begins at $35/hour; commensurate with experience.
