Central Synagogue-Beth Emeth (CSBE) is a Reform and Reconstructionist congregation in Rockville Centre, NY. For over 90 years, CSBE has been a vibrant center for progressive Judaism on Long Island’s South Shore.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Music & Liturgy Teacher to inspire students in grades 4-7 through Jewish music, prayer, and worship. This educator will help students build confidence in leading prayers and deepen their connection to Jewish traditions through music and meaningful participation in synagogue life.

Schedule

  • In person school hours, Sundays, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM, from fall through June
  • Attendance at staff meetings and professional development sessions, as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Jewish music, prayer, and liturgy to students in grades 4-7.
  • Prepare students to confidently participate in and help lead portions of student-led Shabbat services.
  • Foster an appreciation for Jewish prayer by helping students understand both its meaning and practice.
  • Create engaging, interactive lessons that encourage participation and build musical confidence.
  • Collaborate with clergy and the Director of Education to reinforce classroom learning and worship experiences.
  • Support school-wide programs, holiday celebrations, and special events.
  • Communicate effectively with families and colleagues.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching Jewish music, Hebrew prayer, liturgy, or cantorial music.
  • Familiarity with the CHAI curriculum strongly preferred.
  • Strong vocal and musical abilities, with the ability to engage elementary and middle-school students.
  • Passion for creating joyful and meaningful Jewish learning experiences.
  • Commitment to the inclusive, pluralistic values of Reform and Reconstructionist Judaism.
  • Collaborative, organized, and dependable.

Compensation

  • $55–$60 per hour, based on experience.
