Anshe Sholom B’nai Israel Congregation Executive Director 

Anshe Sholom B'nai Israel Congregation (ASBI), a vibrant Modern Orthodox synagogue in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, seeks an exceptional Executive Director to help guide our institution into its next chapter of growth and to lead the daily operations of the organization.  ASBI is a welcoming and diverse community committed to halacha [Jewish law], intellectual pursuit, religious engagement, and growth. ASBI’s 260 member units include undergraduate and graduate students, young singles and families, and long-time residents.  This role offers the unique opportunity to shape strategic initiatives that strengthen membership, expand resources, and build a thriving, sustainable future for our dynamic community.

In this pivotal role, the Executive Director will oversee: major administrative functions,  finances, facilities, programming and execution, and staff.  This role also serves as key partner to the Rabbi and works closely with board members, and lay leaders to ensure the smooth functioning and continued growth of our community. As our community's welcoming face, the Executive Director will serve as the first point of contact for members and prospective members, representing the warmth of our community and its values.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Financial Stewardship: Oversee budgeting, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, dues collection, financial reporting, insurance, and grant management.
  • Facilities Leadership: Manage properties’ maintenance, security, vendor relationships, and special projects, ensuring the synagogue and mikveh are well maintained and Shabbat/Yom Tov ready.
  • Program & Event Support: Coordinate logistics for synagogue programs, kiddushim, and lifecycle events, ensuring proactive and smooth communication, delivery, execution and a welcoming environment.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise a dedicated team including Associate Director, Director of Family Programming and Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Office Management: Manage daily office operations while supporting the board, the Rabbi, and other lay leadership in advancing ASBI’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Fundraising & Development: Support and partner with clergy, board members, and lay leaders on fundraising efforts, including annual fundraisers and special campaigns.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years proven experience in nonprofit or synagogue administration, financial management, and staff supervision.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Rabbi, lay leaders, and volunteers.
  • Commitment to supporting the values and practices of our Modern Orthodox synagogue.
  • Availability and flexibility to frequently oversee or delegate supervision of synagogue programming on Shabbat, Holidays and evenings.

Compensation: Salary Range is $70,000-80,000 and commensurate with experience.
