Interim Clergy Educator – August 1, 2026 (One year) Bnai Keshet, Montclair, NJ
Bnai Keshet Reconstructionist synagogue in Montclair, NJ seeks an Interim Rabbi-Educator or Cantor-Educator to begin on or about August 1, 2026 for the 5787 program year (2026-2027 Bet Midrash Year).
Bnai Keshet is an inclusive and dynamic congregation of approximately 300 families. Founded in 1978, our name—Children of the Rainbow—reflects our vision and our values. Our purpose is to create a supportive, caring, and inclusive community that will: (1) foster Jewish religious and spiritual life, observance, and culture; (2) provide a stimulating environment for Jewish learning from early childhood to late adulthood; and (3) commit itself to Tikkun Olam/repair of the world.
Bnai Keshet’s Bet Midrash is our K-7 Religious School program that builds to, culminates with, and includes Bnai Mitzvah preparation. It is fully staffed with experienced teachers and a talented song leader. Bet Midrash meets on Shabbat mornings and one afternoon and one evening per week, and enrolls approximately 90 students.
The Interim Clergy Educator will work under the supervision and guidance of the Rabbi, who is the previous Rabbi-Educator, and in partnership with Executive Director and lay leadership (including the Vice President for Education). The Interim Clergy Educator will be principally responsible for running the Bet Midrash, including managing the Bet Midrash’s operations, leading its approximately 12-adult staff and madrikhimot (teen classroom volunteer assistants), implementing its established curriculum, facilitating its programming, and communicating with Bet Midrash families. This may include performing related administrative functions necessary for effective educational programming.
The Interim Clergy Educator will also support Bnai Keshet’s ritual and festival life. Responsibilities may include leading adult and children’s services, contributing to holiday programs, assisting with life cycle events, and teaching adult education classes.
The ideal candidate will be ordained as a Rabbi or Cantor and have deep experience with synagogue school education and management. We seek a skilled and kind communicator who can provide a warm and steady presence in a transition year for our synagogue. Full-time availability and knowledge and understanding of Reconstructing Judaism preferred.
Compensation $80k-$120k (for full-time position) or $50k-$90k (for part-time position) based on experience, with benefits negotiable.
