About This Position

Temple Beth Shalom / Tremont Street Shul (TBS) has been awarded a three-year Kehilah Growth Grant from the Hadar Institute to launch and accelerate programming that engages children and young families throughout their Jewish lives. This position is the operational backbone of that initiative. The Family Programming & Children's Education Coordinator role will work closely with the Families and Children's Committee to build curricula, coordinate volunteers, and plan and run recurring events for the community.

Role Description

This role will focus on building out TBS's Birth to B'nei Mitzvah and Beyond initiative alongside the Families and Children's Committee, in partnership with lay leaders and parent volunteers. Core program areas include:

High Holidays

• Plan and coordinate High Holiday kids' babysitting and services, including
• Coordinate babysitters and volunteers (including paid childcare providers, shul teens, and parent volunteers)
• Plan and help lead an engaging, educational kids' program
• Provide organizational and logistical support throughout the holidays

Shabbat Junior

• Support and help formalize weekly Shabbat children's programming across age cohorts (Tot Shabbat, Big Kid's Shabbat, and eventually Junior Congregation)
• Help recruit, train, and coordinate parent volunteers and teenage madrichim

Torah Tracks

• Coordinate and help expand Mishmar, TBS's weekly after-school Jewish learning program, from a single cohort into multiple age-based groups
• Support curriculum planning and logistics in partnership with educators and facilitators, including building a multi-year curricula appropriate for a diverse range of age groups

Celebrate Together

• Plan and run family holiday celebrations (e.g., Sukkot programming, Simchat Torah children's Hakafot, Chanukah, Tu B'Shvat, Purim, Pesach)
• Help these events serve as welcoming entry points for prospective families as well as gathering points for existing members

General Program & Administrative Support

• Serve as the day-to-day operational point person for the Families and Children's Committee and TBS administrative office
• Track participation and attendance to support the Shul's grant reporting to Hadar
• Provide logistical support for related lifecycle and community events as time allows

Qualifications

• Experience with Jewish education, youth programming, or camp/childcare settings preferred
• Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple moving pieces and volunteers at once
• Warm, engaging presence with children and families
• Comfortable working within a pluralistic, lay-led community spanning orthodox, partnership, and egalitarian practice
• Reliable, self-directed, and communicative; able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays, including on-site during the High Holidays and Shabbat programming
• Familiarity with Jewish holidays, ritual, and prayer helpful; curriculum development experience a plus for the ongoing role

Salary and Term

Salary between $30-35 an hour (commensurate with experience). 10-15 hours of work per week expected. 

At-will employment, but the ideal candidate could stay for at least a year (with potential to stay longer).
