The Secular Studies Principal is responsible for the academic leadership, management, and daily operations of the elementary secular studies program. This role oversees curriculum development, teacher supervision and accountability, student discipline, and serves as a key representative of the school to parents and staff. The ideal candidate balances strong instructional leadership with clear expectations, professionalism, and collaboration within a yeshivah environment. The position reports to the Head of School.

Responsibilities

Academic Leadership & Curriculum

  • Oversee and continuously improve the secular studies curriculum (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, etc.)
  • Ensure curriculum alignment with state standards while fitting the school’s mission and values
  • Support instructional best practices and data-driven decision-making
  • Lead curriculum planning, implementation, and assessment

Teacher Supervision & Accountability

  • Hire, mentor, observe, and evaluate secular studies teachers
  • Set clear expectations for instructional quality, classroom management, and professionalism
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and professional development
  • Address performance concerns and implement improvement plans when needed

Student Discipline & School Culture

  • Establish and enforce consistent discipline policies
  • Support teachers with classroom management and student behavior
  • Handle student discipline issues in a fair, structured, and developmentally appropriate manner
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and orderly learning environment

Leadership & Communication

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for parents regarding secular studies
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, families, and administration
  • Represent the school with confidence and integrity
  • Collaborate closely with Judaic leadership and school administration

Operations & Administration

  • Oversee scheduling, staffing, and daily operations of the secular studies program
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and relevant regulations
  • Participate in school-wide planning, meetings, and initiatives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership preferred
  • Prior experience in elementary school administration required
  • Demonstrated leadership or administrative experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Salary150,000.00 - 185,000.00 Annual
