Beth El Congregation of Baltimore, located in Pikesville, Maryland, was founded in 1948 as a Conservative synagogue committed to preserving traditional Jewish values and life while confronting the challenges of modernity.  Beth El continues to live its mission to help make Judaism uniquely personal in every moment. The congregation embraces the interplay between innovation and tradition as it strives to experience Judaism as central, indispensable, and relevant to 21st Century life.  

Beth El seeks an experienced Director of Development to join the congregation’s leadership team to provide guidance and direction to all aspects of the congregation’s fundraising efforts. This leader will cultivate deep donor relationships, execute strategic campaigns, and ensure financial sustainability of Beth El’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of fundraising campaigns including the annual appeal, event-based fundraising efforts, special initiatives
• Oversee and implement donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies, including building strong relationships with donors and prospective donors and serving as relationship manager
• Supervise Development Associate
• Serve as lead professional for the Development Committee, providing regular updates on fundraising activities to the Board and leadership team
• Work closely with Soul Center colleagues on fundraising efforts, maximizing outcomes for the community
• Develop and implement public phase of Foundations Campaign to achieve $10 million goal
• Build and maintain positive relationships with local foundation funders and prospective funders; Direct granting process and reporting
• Maintain and optimize donor database and information systems
• Represent Beth El Congregation at organizational and community-wide events

Qualifications and Skills

• 5+ years of success in annual giving with strong donor management skills
• Creative and proactive individual who works well on teams and takes independent initiative
• Mature interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with staff, congregants, and partners
• Experienced with volunteer management and event planning
• Excellent verbal and written communicator able to tailor messages to diverse audiences
• Experienced with donor management systems, reporting, and relationship tracking
• Skilled in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom and Google Office
• Deep understanding of Jewish values, traditions, Israel, and congregational life
• Ability and willingness to work outside of regular business hours
