Description

Congregation Beth El, Berkeley’s progressive Reform Congregation, is seeking educators for our K-5th grade and 6th-8th grade supplementary program that meets after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for this coming school year of August 2026-May 2027.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • enthusiasm for and experience working with youth
  • an interest in deepening the connection to Judaism for themselves and for youth
  • an interest in planning and implementing creative, experiential, innovative learning experiences to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • a willingness to learn
  • teaching experience in a Jewish or secular educational setting, informal or formal (preferred)
  • interest in and care for teaching racially, gender, and neurologically diverse students

We offer competitive pay ranging from $45-$60/hour; ongoing training; wonderful children; supportive, appreciative families; and friendly colleagues! Additional teacher in-service sessions and meetings are held throughout the year.

We have the following positions open (and the right person could potentially do multiple of these!):

1st grade: Thursdays, 4:00-6:00 pm

3rd grade Hebrew: Using Onward Hebrew’s Hebrew Through Movement program and prayer-based learning. Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00 pm

4th grade Hebrew: Using Onward Hebrew’s Hebrew Through Movement program and prayer-based learning. Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00 pm

3-5th grade Elective: Could be art, journalism, Jewish LARPing (yes, please!) or could be something else creative or active that complements our current offerings of cooking, sports and graphic novels. Thursdays, 4:00-6:00 pm

6th grade Hebrew teacher and Judaic Studies Teacher: Wednesdays, 3:00-6:00 pm

We also have additional hours to offer during our Pre-Kadima childcare, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, ~2:30-4 (exact times vary). This role pays $25/hour.

At Beth El we value the range of knowledge and skills that come from different lived experiences. Our community is diverse in race, gender identity, ability, national origin, sexual orientation, and religious practice. We aim to reflect that diversity in our teaching team.
