Become part of a warm, vibrant, inclusive community and help make a difference by serving as the Administrative Assistant at a dynamic Conservative synagogue in Howard County. Depending on the candidate selected, this position will be a part-time 24 hours per week hourly position with occasional weekend work or a full-time position including working Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings during Religious School hours.  This position reports directly to the Synagogue Administrator. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides minimal administrative support to the Rabbi.
  2. Assists with preparation for classes, events, and meetings.
  3. Performs administrative duties including answering telephones, producing mailings, filing, and data entry.
  4. Supports committee and Board of Trustees' activities, as needed.
  5. Creates weekly electronic newsletters and weekly Shabbat bulletins.
  6. Uses Shul Cloud platform to develop electronic messages and event registrations.
  7. Posts events and messages on social media such as Facebook and Instagram.
  8. Provides administrative support necessary for the smooth conduct of all Shabbat and life cycle services and events, High Holy Day services, and festivals.
  9. Serves as an interface between the synagogue, its members, prospective members, community leaders, and the community through telephone, e-mail, and in person communications.
  10. Responsible for maintaining and updating membership data base and congregational calendars.
  11. Assists Education Director. 
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications:

  1. Working knowledge of Judaic practices and rituals including familiarity with the Jewish calendar of celebrations and holidays.
  2. Warm and friendly with excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  3. Excellent writing and proofreading skills.
  4. Efficient and possess strong organizational skills.
  5. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  6. Ability to multitask and provide attention to detail.
  7. Must have basic Hebrew reading and writing knowledge.
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Canva, and/or Google Suite.
  9. Knowledge of Shul Cloud a plus.
  10. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Salary range:  $18-$20 per hour for part-time or $40K-$45K per annum for full-time.
