Mid-Level Attorney Position

Seniority Level: Mid-Level

Role & Responsibilities

  • Communicate with clients and provide status reports
  • Work closely with external attorneys on legal projects
  • Represent clients in litigation and other legal proceedings
  • Advise clients on legal matters
  • Research and draft legal analysis, op-eds, and articles on relevant matters/issues
  • Report to the Executive Director
  • Assist in administrative operations of the organization
  • Assist with grant writing and donor relations

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school with a strong academic record
  • Admitted to practice in New York State, and/or other U.S. states
  • At least 4 years of practice experience, ideally with some litigation experience
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector (preferred but not required)
  • Areas of interest include: civil and human rights law, anti-discrimination law, First Amendment, and defamation law
  • Legal project management experience
  • Excellent communication, public speaking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to integrate into a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills across different locations
  • Strong legal research, document drafting, and writing skills
  • Comfort with technology, and willingness to learn new platforms and systems
  • All candidates must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment

This position is expected to begin on a contract basis, with the possibility of transitioning to full-time employment for the right candidate.

Benefits

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $140,000 – $185,000. The Lawfare Project offers a comprehensive benefits package, including full medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off and holidays, and the flexibility of remote work.
