Santa Barbara Hillel

Role Overview

We have an immediate opening to begin this January 2022.

Help inspire the Jewish future by joining Santa Barbara Hillel as our next Director of Student Life. We’re seeking a creative, outgoing, well-organized person with a can-do attitude to lead our student life team. You’ll work closely with amazing staff, Hillel student leadership, and other student groups and campus partners to create a robust, vibrant, and positive Jewish presence on campus and in the community. You will collaborate with and supervise our Engagement Associate and our Israel Engagement Specialist: IACT.

You’ll meet students where they are, help them find their way along their Jewish journey, and develop the leaders of the future. You’ll travel to Israel – perhaps multiple times each year - and leverage our strong Israel programming to engage students on many levels. With year-round fantastic weather, you’ll be happy to smile in the sunshine with our students and our team every step of the way.

What You’ll Do

  • Organize and empower students by providing them with tools and resources to create innovative social, cultural, educational, and religious programs that energize Jewish life on campus
  • Identify, recruit, cultivate, and develop a committed and connected group of student leaders
  • Actively infuse Jewish life and learning into programs and engagement opportunities
  • Supervise the Engagement Associate and Israel Engagement Specialist: IACT
  • Immersion Experiences: Promote and recruit students for Birthright Israel and other immersive educational trips, serve as staff (including multiple Israel trips annually), and follow up with continued engagement after the trips return
  • Manage overall programming, and staff programs (including Shabbat evenings, programs, Jewish holidays, some weekends and evenings)
  • Develop key relationships with campus professionals and student organizational partners to ensure positive positioning of Santa Barbara Hillel in the university landscape
