Temple Beth El South Orange County (TBESOC) seeks a part-time Conservative Clergy to help guide our community into its next era of growth — revitalizing worship, deepening engagement across generations, and strengthening the synagogue’s spiritual, educational, and communal life.

TBESOC is a unique and welcoming congregation that embraces both Reform and Conservative expressions of Judaism while operating as one community. The Conservative Clergy will have autonomy in Conservative-style worship while collaborating closely with our Senior Reform Clergy. Success will be defined by fostering a thriving Conservative minyan that reflects the richness of Jewish tradition and the spirit of TBESOC.

Key Performance Objectives

  1. Lead Inspiring Conservative Style Worship

    Lead Shabbat, Yom Tov, and High Holy Day services with meaningful innovations that reflect the diversity of Conservative Judaism.
    Develop the skills of lay leaders and increase participation of all members.
    Provide leadership in service structure and coordinate layleaders.

  2. Compassionate Pastoral Care and Life Cycle Events
     
    Offer pastoral care for congregants experiencing major life events ensuring timely and personal rabbinic contact.
    Officiate and lead life cycle events.
    Coordinate with the Senior Clergy and Hineinu Caring Committee to expand the reach of pastoral support across the congregation.

  3. Institutional Stewardship and Community Growth

    Enhance engagement and retention among existing members through meaningful relationships and inclusive Conservative style worship.
    Foster greater attendance by inspiring a culture that attracts new members.
    Strengthen the bonds of respect and togetherness across our congregation.

  4. Strengthen Jewish Learning and Education.

    Guide and support B’nei Mitzvah students and families who choose Conservative-style services.
    Collaborate with the Senior Clergy and the Director of Education to explore opportunities for teaching or participation in religious school and adult programming

Qualifications

Ordained from a recognized Rabbinical or Cantorial program.
Kol Bo – ability to conduct musical services and davening without additional vocal support.
High proficiency for chanting Torah and Haftorah with limited preparation time.
Previous experience as congregational clergy preferred.

Salary and Time Commitments

Salary range of $40,000–$55,000, dependent on experience, scope of duties, and time commitment.
Available 15–20 hours per week, based on responsibilities and mutual agreement.
