Reports to: Executive Director

Location:  Remote (within an hour's drive of New York City preferred)

Status: Full-time, exempt

Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience, plus a generous benefits package

Start Date: Late summer / Early fall 2024


Tivnu: Building Justice engages and mobilizes the emerging Jewish adult community on issues of shelter and other basic human needs through hands-on work, education, and advocacy. Tivnu, located in Portland, Oregon, offers one- to ten-day programs, summer programs, and its cornerstone program, the Tivnu Gap Year. The Tivnu Gap Year is a 9-month immersive experience for high school graduates, ages 17-20, from across the United States. Participants connect Jewish life and social justice through individualized internships, discover the Pacific Northwest, and create a home together in Portland.




  1. Develop and implement a master recruiting plan, in consultation with the executive director and program director.
  2. Serve as the first, main, and enthusiastic contact with any leads and recommenders, shepherding them through the process from indication of interest to acceptance.
  3. Participate (in person and virtually) in conferences and fairs, and facilitate educational / outreach programs at summer camps, high schools, youth groups, and synagogues, in order to build excitement and awareness about Tivnu and lay the groundwork for application to the gap year program. Most of these events will occur in the evenings, on weekends, and during the summer camp season, throughout the United States.


  1. Build relationships and partnership opportunities with Jewish organizations, equipping them to encourage their teens to see Tivnu as their next step after high school. 
  2. Foster and maintain relationships with a broad network of colleagues who will help to amplify Tivnu’s work. 
  3. Build greater interest in Tivnu’s short-term (3-10-day) programs for schools, youth groups, camps, etc., and staff as needed.


  1. Propose and manage strategy and structures for developing relationships with board, advisory council, and parents of alumni as partners in recruitment in their communities and networks. 
  2. Engage Tivnu alumni to weave a network of Jewish young adults involved in social justice work and recruiting future Tivnu participants. 

Marketing and Communication

  1. In consultation with the executive director and program director, design, launch, and continually improve a comprehensive marketing and communication plan utilizing social media, website, correspondence, and marketing.
  2. Manage marketing and communication budget.


  1. Manage and expand Salesforce database for recruitment and networking.
  2. Manage all application and enrollment documents.

Additional projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • 8+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years of experience in recruiting and engagement work for gap year, college, youth group, summer camp, school, or other Jewish non-profit organization, preferably with a national scope.
  • Experience facilitating engaging in-person and virtual educational programs and/or experience describing and promoting the benefits of a program or product.
  • Experience and proficiency in a range of systems and platforms, including CRMs (Salesforce preferred), email marketing (MailChimp preferred), social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), and a willingness to learn new software and platforms. 
  • Past experience and outcomes that demonstrate careful attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility and availability to facilitate and attend programs outside regular business hours. Potentially a couple of trips outside the NYC area per month. Summer months likely mostly on the road. 
  • Current U.S. driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to drive long distances as needed. Typically this could  include driving to events within 250 miles of New York City during the school year, but may include longer drives between summer camps from June-August.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Ability to thrive in remote work as part of a team: proven track record of taking initiative, strategic prioritizing, and working independently between supervisory meetings. Demonstrated success in collaborative work environments.
  • Relationships throughout Jewish communities, particularly in the teen world, and experience leveraging those relationships.
  • Experience with professional social media management.
  • Commitment to Tivnu’s mission and interest in Jewish social justice work.
