Title: After School Program Director
Reports to: Director of Congregational Learning
Position Type: Regular Full Time, 12 month, Exempt Employee Compensation Range: Starting at $65,00 with room for negotiation commensurate with experience.
Start Date: March 1, 2026

Congregation Beth Ohr in Bellmore, NY is looking for a caring and talented leader with a passion for working with children and their families to direct a new Jewish After School Program for grades K-5.
Our program will be a joyful place for children to play and learn. We will offer the services of a premium after school program with a full, experiential Jewish learning curriculum. Supported by the Jewish After School Accelerator (JASA), this program is child-centered and rooted in Jewish values. We seek an energetic educator and entrepreneurial leader ready to hit the ground running to grow and build out our program which will launch in fall of 2026.
You are creative, innovative, and thrive in a position where you have a range of responsibilities. You can move easily from water coloring with kindergarteners to problem-solving bus transportation. You love children and partnering with their parents to help them grow and thrive Jewishly. You may have attended or worked at a Jewish summer camp! You have hidden special talents - in sports, art, or music – which you would enjoy sharing with young people. And you love leading your own team to make this all happen.
The After School Director is the outward face of the program and is responsible for growing this exciting new program at Congregation Beth Ohr. The job includes a range of responsibilities from family engagement, marketing, and operations to teaching and managing the teaching team.
The categories of responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Family Relationship Management
- Serves as the point of contact for the program.
- Manages enrollment and student forms.
- Sends daily class updates and weekly newsletters to families.
- Communicates with parents during work hours by app (tbd), phone, email, and/or in-person meetings about their children's experience.
Operations Management
- Maintains program licensing requirements with the NYS Office of Child and Family Services (OFCS)
- Implements all health and safety protocols daily.
- Manages budget, spending, and grant reporting.
- Oversees classroom material supplies and healthy snack options.
- Liaises with transportation service.
- Maintains good relationships with partner elementary schools in Bellmore-Merrick-Wantagh.
Marketing & Recruitment
- Recruits new families.
- Leads tours for new families and other interested partners.
- Establishes a marketing approach for the promotion of the program and distributes information through email, social media, and print media.
- Attends PTO meetings, school sponsored events, and other local community events, and organizes special events, in order to promote the program and enrollment.
Teaching and Education Leadership
- In our first year, the Director is evenly divided between administration and teaching. In coming years, the role will be more administrative.
- Cultivates a positive, hardworking, supportive culture among staff.
- Recruits, hires, and trains Club Ohr teachers and interns.
- Plans and leads annual Teacher Training and weekly staff meetings.
- Supports teachers with lesson implementation and classroom behavior management. (Club Ohr curriculum is fully developed with a wide range of implementation possibilities through our partners at JASA.)
Qualifications
- Entrepreneurial spirit!
- Energized by working with and for children and their families.
- Highly organized and a natural sense of humor.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field.
- 1-3 years experience as a Jewish educator of children, ideally aged 5 to 10 yrs old.
- 1-3 years experience in out of school settings, such as after school or summer
