Living Judaism Is Hiring for the 2026–2027 School Year!
We are looking for creative, compassionate, and dependable educators to join the Living Judaism team at University Synagogue!
Living Judaism is more than a traditional religious school. We are committed to engaging every learner in their own way and giving students opportunities to Do Jewish. Rather than relying on textbooks, our students explore Jewish rituals, holidays, community, history, Hebrew, and values through hands-on, inclusive, and meaningful experiences.
Our Sunday mornings may include cooking, art, science, music, drama, dance, Tikkun Olam, and more. Once a month, our students also take their learning beyond the synagogue through an off-site, hands-on Jewish service-learning experience.
We are currently hiring:
- A 6th Grade Judaic Studies Teacher to guide students through general Jewish knowledge and help them explore what Judaism means in their own lives.
- A 7th Grade Holocaust Studies Teacher to lead thoughtful, age-appropriate learning about the Holocaust, memory, responsibility, and Jewish identity.
- A Hebrew Teacher to work with students in small, ability-based groups. Comfort reading Hebrew prayers is strongly preferred.
The Role at a Glance
Experiential Teaching: Create engaging, hands-on lessons using a provided curriculum, pacing guide, and extensive teaching resources.
Jewish Exploration: Help students discover meaningful and personal connections to Jewish traditions, history, community, values, and identity.
Collaboration: Develop lessons in partnership with the Director of Congregational Learning and participate in a supportive team of educators.
Community Building: Create a classroom environment in which every student feels known, welcomed, and able to succeed.
Details and Perks
- Pay: $30–$50 per hour, based on experience.
- Schedule: Sundays from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., October 4, 2026, through the first week of May 2027.
- Preparation: Classroom teachers receive one additional paid planning hour each week when lesson plans are submitted on time.
- Additional Commitments: Teacher orientation in late August, staff training, monthly off-site Sunday experiences, and two Shabbat services during the school year.
- Membership: Complimentary University Synagogue membership.
- Tuition Benefit: Reduced Living Judaism tuition for teachers’ children.
- Sunday Breakfast: Breakfast is provided each Sunday.
Teaching, camp counseling, or youth work experience is preferred but not required. We welcome creative educators, college students, camp counselors, and others who enjoy working with young people and have a love of Jewish life. Candidates must be at least 18 and willing to complete a reimbursed background check.
