Job description

Atlanta Jewish Academy is a Modern Orthodox, independent preschool–12th grade school located in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Overview

AJA seeks a dynamic, dedicated, and passionate Ivrit teacher who can plan and implement excellent classroom sessions for  5th - 8th grade students.  Preferred candidates have taught in Jewish day schools previously, and who are also proficient in student-centered pedagogy. The ideal candidate excels at forging relationships with students and works well as a member of a thoughtful team. AJA features a robust mentoring program and is capable of inducting new-to-the-field teachers who are looking for a nurturing leadership team to develop their talents. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching approximately 24 periods per week of Hebrew Language to students in grades 5–8
  • Teaching a weekly elective or experiential learning course, not necessarily in Hebrew
  • Designing and implementing engaging lesson plans aligned with grade-level learning goals
  • Assessing student growth across the four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) and supporting progress toward Hebrew proficiency
  • Using student performance data to inform instruction and differentiation
  • Collaborating with Hebrew department colleagues and middle school grade-level teams
  • Participating in team meetings focused on student growth and well-being
  • Communicating regularly and thoughtfully with parents
  • Contributing to division- and department-wide programming and curriculum development
  • Participating in faculty meetings, professional development, and school life
  • Supervising daily tefila in a way that is meaningful and developmentally appropriate
  • Assisting with additional school responsibilities as needed (e.g., lunch duty, carpool, clubs)
  • Supporting school programs and celebrations, including oneg Shabbat, chaggim, Challah Bake, and other community events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Teaching, Language Acquisition, Middle Grades Education, or a related field required
  • Master’s degree preferred but not required
  • Experience teaching Hebrew and/or world languages, particularly at the middle school level, preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
