Description

Temple Emmanuel of Wakefield’s CHAI Hebrew School is seeking a part-time Hebrew School teacher for the remainder of the 2025-2026 School Year. The CHAI School is a K-6 Hebrew School. Teaching hours are Tuesdays from 3:30-6:00. Pay is based on experience. Please submit a resume, cover letter, and 2-3 references.

Duties

  • Create a warm and nurturing classroom environment, where students interact in a kind and considerate way
  • Work with the lead teacher and the school principal (the rabbi) to create engaging lesson plans to teach students Hebrew, Jewish Prayer and Practices, and Bible studies
  • Instruct individual, small groups, or the entire class independently
  • Collaborate with the rabbi to create and support a weekly School assembly and Prayer Service
  • Help to assess student abilities both formally and observationally
  • Monitor and model expected student behaviors
  • Serve as the substitute teacher for the lead teacher or the rabbi, as needed
  • Support weekly School assembly and Prayer Service, working with the rabbi.
  • Create meaningful relationships with the parent population
  • Alert the lead teacher or school principal to any conversation in which the parent expresses concern about the child’s progress; always refer the parent to the Lead Teacher or the school principal.
  • Promote and attend Temple Emmanuel family holiday celebrations (Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Purim) and all school Shabbat celebrations
  • Attend monthly staff meetings (3rd Tuesday of the month @7:30 over Zoom)
  • Help keep the classroom space neat and tidy (put away chairs at the end of class, wipe down desks, clean the kitchen after use, etc.).
  • Assist during student drop-off and pick-up
  • Make photocopies
  • Help create/take down bulletin boards

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and with empathy with students, parents, and leadership, both verbally and in writing
  • Has a general knowledge of Judaism (holidays and traditions, prayers, Bible stories) and Hebrew
  • Possesses a strong commitment to Jewish life and Jewish education
  • Experience teaching in elementary education
  • Has some computer literacy
  • Experienced in using social media
