Seeking Educators for Beth Am’s Jewish Discovery Lab
The Position: We are currently seeking passionate, creative, and enthusiastic educators to lead our Kindergarten-7th grade classrooms. This part-time position would help design and facilitate a class of 10-15 students working with them on Hebrew reading, tefilah, and engage in our core curriculum, using art, movement, and other modalities to explore an array of Jewish topics.
About Beth Am’s Jewish Discovery Lab: Beth Am is a Conservative Synagogue located in the Reservoir Hill Neighborhood of Baltimore. We are committed to seeking Jewish responses to life’s biggest questions, fostering a sacred community in Reservoir Hill, and pursuing Justice in Baltimore and beyond.
Beth Am’s supplementary Jewish education program, the Jewish Discovery Lab, is an interactive, individualized approach to Jewish Learning for Kindergarten to high school students. Our open classroom model allows students to help set their personal learning goals, and our project-based units encourage collaborative and hands-on learning. Lab focuses on orienting students in core areas of Jewish text and practice and helps them apply this wisdom to their full lives.
The 2nd-7th grades classes meet at Beth Am Synagogue on Sundays from 9:30 a.m.-12:30pm, and Wednesdays from 4:15 pm-6:15 pm. Educators who can only commit to teaching on one of these days are encouraged to apply. Teachers will also be responsible for attending staff meetings, and communicating with parents.
A successful candidate will have passion and experience working with young children, and will be passionate about experiential learning and Jewish education. Candidates should be comfortable with project-based learning and other hands-on modalities to meet the needs of our diverse learners.
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with education experience approximately $32-$38. Higher paid positions available for teachers with significant religious school or other education experience available. Paid orientation and staff meetings as well as prep time.. A transportation stipend is also available for eligible college students.
