About Congregation Beth El

Congregation Beth El of Montgomery County is a vibrant and growing synagogue community of approximately 1,100 households, making it one of the 20 largest Conservative congregations in the United States. We are a welcoming, dynamic, and values-driven community dedicated to Jewish learning, worship, engagement, and lifelong connection.

We are seeking a highly organized and relationship-oriented Development Coordinator to support and strengthen our fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This is an exciting opportunity for a development professional who is passionate about community-building and eager to help reimagine synagogue fundraising for the future.

Position Summary

The Development Coordinator plays a key role in supporting Beth El's fundraising operations, donor stewardship, and community engagement efforts. Working closely with synagogue leadership and staff, the coordinator will help implement fundraising strategies, maintain donor systems, support campaign execution, and cultivate meaningful donor relationships that advance the congregation's mission and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Development Operations & Communications (35%)

  • Maintain donor management systems, ensuring timely gift processing, accurate records, and reliable reporting.
  • Utilize CRM platforms, including Salesforce or similar systems, to support donor tracking and engagement activities.
  • Generate reports and analyze fundraising data to support strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop compelling donor communications and fundraising materials.
  • Stay informed about best practices and emerging trends in nonprofit fundraising through professional development opportunities.

Fundraising Support (30%)

  • Assist in implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies that support the congregation's mission and financial goals.
  • Monitor progress toward annual fundraising objectives and provide updates to leadership.
  • Support key fundraising initiatives, including the Annual Campaign, special giving programs, and future capital campaign planning.
  • Prepare fundraising reports, dashboards, and campaign summaries for leadership and volunteer committees.

Donor Engagement & Stewardship (20%)

  • Support donor communications and relationship-building efforts under the direction of senior staff.
  • Coordinate donor stewardship activities, including acknowledgments, follow-up communications, and recognition programs.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and generate reports to support prospect and donor pipeline management.
  • Ensure donors receive timely, personalized recognition that fosters long-term engagement and philanthropy.

Community Engagement (15%)

  • Support volunteer fundraising efforts, including engagement with Board members and committee leadership.
  • Partner with clergy, program directors, and administrative staff to align fundraising initiatives with synagogue programs and priorities.
  • Attend community events and represent Beth El in ways that strengthen relationships and expand fundraising opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, advancement, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting annual campaigns, donor communications, and fundraising operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling donor-focused messaging.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with donor databases and CRM systems; Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, clergy, and lay leaders.
  • Familiarity with Jewish traditions, values, and philanthropy (including tzedakah) is strongly preferred.
  • Flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events.
