Teen Engagement Associate
Ohr Kodesh Congregation

This 20 hour per week position offers the opportunity to be creative and to share your excitement and passions with teens beginning their independent Jewish journeys. You will have the chance to build meaningful and impactful relationships with teens and their families while developing professional skills in a vibrant Jewish community organization.

 

In this position, you will work with a committed and collaborative educational staff for a Conservative synagogue that is committed to taking Jewish tradition seriously and working with an engaged lay leadership group to deepen our knowledge and create fun, meaningful, and enriching Jewish experiences for our teens and families.

 

The Teen Engagement Associate (TEA) serves as an advisor to our youth groups. The TEA is responsible for the administrative responsibilities connected to all middle and high school informal educational programs. The TEA will recruit and train for, and supervise, synagogue programming for the teens who support our teachers in Shabbat, High Holiday, and Religious School programs. The TEA will work closely with the Director of Lifelong Learning and other educational leaders to create Jewish experiences for teens and their families, fulfill certain administrative responsibilities to ensure an effective and professional program, and work appropriately with lay leadership in every aspect of the program. The Ohr Kodesh professional team is committed to mentoring and supporting the Teen Engagement Associate as this individual develops these skills. 

 

Teen Leaders and Madrichim

  • Coordinate Ohr Kodesh Teen Leaders and Madrichim for Shabbat morning, family events, and High Holiday support

 

Teen Education and Programming

  • Coordinate and attend Shabbat and holiday teen programs
  • Monthly youth group activities and hangouts
  • Work with the educational team to plan and implement all middle school and teen engagement  programs including High Holidays, Purim, Hanukkah, etc.

 

Youth Group Advisor for Youth Groups 

  • Ongoing communication, texting, and hanging out with our teens
  • “Kadima” (Grades 6-8)
  • “USY” (Grades 8-12)

 

Administration and Communication

  • Engage professionals and lay leaders to ensure clear communication and synergy among educational cohorts
  • Ensure regular, consistent, and effective communication with teens and their families, including a monthly email to families of teens
  • Budget and administer financial aspects of informal teen programming
  • Attend monthly Middle School/High School committee meetings as needed, and occasional Youth and Family committee meetings as needed

 

Salary: $20,000 per year 

 

This position is designated as half time and salaried. It is estimated/intended to necessitate approximately 20 hours weekly, and it is understood that this will vary during the course of the year; at certain times of the year and as circumstances may demand, the workload will be heavier and, conversely, at other times the workload will be lighter. 

 

The Teen Engagement Associate reports to the Rabbi Batya Glazer, Director of Lifelong Learning.
