Founded as separate organizations in 1948, Jewish Long Beach (JLB) and the Barbara and Ray Alpert JCC (AJCC) are the newly merged agency serving the functions of a Jewish community center, Jewish federation, and Jewish community foundation for the Long Beach and west Orange County areas. Jewish Long Beach administers a wide variety of programs and services, rooted in Jewish values but open to all, including adult education, services for seniors, leadership development, early childhood education, summer camp, after-school programs, fitness and wellness programs, advocacy, and much more. Jewish Long Beach also awards nearly $500,000 in grants annually to a variety of nonprofit agencies throughout the Long Beach area and overseas. The organization owns and operates an eight-acre multi-use campus in east Long Beach, has an annual operating budget of approximately $7 million, and manages approximately $35 million in philanthropic assets.

Position Summary

The Jewish Life and Culture Adult Program Manager is responsible for the development of social, recreational, educational, and cultural programs for adults and senior adults that meet the mission of Jewish Long Beach/Alpert Jewish Community Center. Responsibilities include developing engaging events and innovative experiences that promote the mission and purpose of JLB/AJCC, as well as providing programmatic and logistical support to the Director of Jewish Life and Culture and the Chief Program Officer. The Program Manager will plan, supervise, implement, and support a schedule of programs that contribute to a culture of a welcoming and caring community.


Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement creative adult programs, classes, and groups in collaboration with the Director of Jewish Life and Culture, the Chief Program Officer, and development staff.
  • Administrative duties, including implementing procedures on program and room setups, marketing of programs in conjunction with the marketing manager, completing purchase orders, and departmental tracking including documentation and evaluation as needed.
  • Develop relationships with members, participants, and other local organizations, both Jewish and non-Jewish.
  • Work closely with program, development, and Jewish life and culture staff to help facilitate large community programs.
  • Monitor and maintain adult program budgets.
  • Oversee the Senior Lunch Program, including coordinating the menu with volunteers and planning programs and activities that occur with or following the lunch.
  • Supervise weekly Senior Meal Delivery Program, including meal planning, routing deliveries, and tracking/supporting participants.
  • Serve as primary staff person for the JCC Cares program. Work directly with the JCC Cares chairperson to plan and implement service projects for JCC members and the community.
  • Serve as primary staff person overseeing the JCC volunteers, including Ambassadors, and recruit, supervise, retain, and train all volunteers.
  • Provide direct support to senior adults in our community, provide appropriate referrals and linkages to services, and collaborate with assisting agencies.

Skills

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, and working knowledge of office equipment

 

Education, Experience & Requirements

  • 3 or more years of related professional experience in nonprofit management or social services and/or equivalent combination experience and education
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
  • Basic knowledge of Jewish culture and community a plus, including holidays, customs, and beliefs
  • Understanding of the needs of senior adults
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement programs

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

The position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the single adult worker is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Work Environment

Working conditions are primarily a general office setting. The noise level is usually quiet.

 

OVID19 Vaccination Requirement

The Alpert JCC requires staff and members who are accessing campus facilities to be immunized against COVID-19 or declare a medical or religious exemption. Any candidates advanced in a currently open search process should be prepared to comply with this requirement as a condition of employment.
