Position Type: Seasonal / Contract
Timeframe: High Holy Days 2026 (including preparatory rehearsals)

Overview

Temple Bat Yam seeks a skilled and sensitive accompanist to partner with our Cantorial Soloist for the 2026 High Holy Days. The accompanist will provide musical support for worship services and selected congregational moments, helping to create a spiritually meaningful, accessible, and uplifting High Holy Day experience consistent with Reform Jewish worship.

 Responsibilities

Rehearsals – TBD

  • Participate in scheduled rehearsals with the Cantorial Soloist prior to the High Holy Days
  • Collaborate on musical arrangements, tempos, cues, and congregational participation
  • Be available for additional coordination as needed (in person and/or remote)

Services and Programs
The accompanist is expected to provide musical accompaniment for the following:

  • Selichot Service – Saturday, September 5 @ 8 pm @ TBY
  • Rosh HaShanah
    • Evening Service – Friday, September 11 @ 8 pm @ Amaturo Theater
    • Morning Service – Saturday, September 12 @ 10 am @ Amaturo Theater
    • Second Day Morning Service – Sunday, September 13 @ 10 am @ TBY
  • Kol Nidre – Sunday, September 20 @ 8 pm @ Amaturo Theater
  • Yom Kippur
    • Morning Service – Monday, September 21 @ 10 am @ Amaturo Theater
    • Afternoon Service – All Day – Monday, September 21 @ 2 pm @ Amaturo Theater
  • Pre-High Holy Day Shabbat – TBA @ TBY
    • One Friday evening service prior to the High Holy Days to introduce the accompanist to the congregation and worship style

 Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency on keyboard/piano (or other agreed-upon primary accompanying instrument)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a cantorial soloist and clergy
  • Experience accompanying worship services in a Jewish congregational setting preferred
  • Familiarity with Reform Jewish High Holy Day liturgy and nusach is a strong plus
  • Flexibility, reliability, and a calm, professional presence during high-pressure, large-attendance services

 Compensation

  • Compensation is commensurate with experience
  • Rehearsal time and services compensated as part of the overall contract

 Additional Notes

  • Specific service dates and rehearsal schedules will be confirmed in advance
  • Sound checks and coordination with clergy and technical staff are expected as part of service preparation
