Are you a big picture thinker, an expert pedagogue, and skilled at turning content into rich educational experiences and practical resources?  Are you an excellent educational facilitator and community builder, both in person and online?  Are you passionate about ensuring Jewish students are well-supported on campus, and that they are supported within the context of colleges and universities’ commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion more broadly?  

We are seeking an Assistant Director for Hillel’s Campus Climate Initiative (CCI), which partners with local Hillels and university administrators to ensure a positive campus environment in which Jewish students feel comfortable expressing their identities and values, free of harassment, hostility, or marginalization.

CCI works closely each year with a cohort of campuses, partnering with both the local Hillel and the campus administration. CCI launched its first cohort of 8 campuses in January 2021 and its second cohort of 19 campuses in August 2021.  This partnership includes training and education on Jewish identity, inclusion and antisemitism, holistic review of current campus climate, goal setting and consultation on next steps, and sharing of best practices within the cohort. 

The Assistant Director of the Campus Climate Initiative will engage in research, curriculum and content development, and facilitation of digital community spaces to support college and university administrators in cultivating campus climates that allow students to feel comfortable and respected in engaging, exploring, and identifying in diverse ways with Judaism and Israel. The Assistant Director will play a key role in building out CCI’s suite of educational resources and curricula for campus administrators, both inside and outside our cohorts. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Campus Climate Initiative, the Assistant Director will also collaborate with various Hillel International teams and with local Hillel professionals. 

What You’ll Do

Curriculum Development and Research 

  • Develop new multi-media training curriculum and refine existing curriculum on issues related to Jewish identity, the diversity of the Jewish community, historical and contemporary antisemitism, and the nuanced relationship between anti-Israel activity and antisemitism on college and university campuses 
  • Plan and lead ongoing cohort learning sessions for campus administrators and Hillel professionals in the CCI cohort
  • Curate content on Jewish issues and campus antisemitism to share with administrators 
  • Research best practices on institutional policies, procedures, and educational programs, curate them, and create shareable resources for university administrators 
  • Explore opportunities to utilize existing training curriculum to create scalable and possibly asynchronous training modules 
  • Assist with developing content for larger CCI-led events as needed e.g., summits for college and university presidents 

Lead Trainings and Educational Sessions

  • Lead trainings on Jewish identity and antisemitism for different higher education audiences (e.g., student affairs conference presentations, virtual or in-person trainings for professionals at specific campuses) 
  • Manage ongoing relationships and educational work with higher education associations 
  • Provide tailored programmatic and content support for cohort campuses 

Build Community in Digital spaces 

  • Manage and maintain digital community spaces for each CCI cohort on the ACE Engage platform 
  • Moderate and encourage conversation, resource sharing, and community building among the cohort on Engage

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • 6+ years of professional experience in higher education, curriculum development, instructional design, DEI training and education, or in a Jewish communal organization 
  • Bachelor’s degree required and advanced degree in a relevant field preferred 
  • Knowledge about Jewish identity, antisemitism, and issues that affect Jewish students on campus 
  • Experience developing educational content and curriculum, including digital and multimedia presentations 
  • Experience facilitating community building and learning on digital platforms 
  • Familiarity with university practices, policies, and issues related to campus climate, diversity and inclusion, and free speech (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and research skills 
  • Ability to engage a diverse set of experiences, opinions, perspectives, and backgrounds with curiosity and empathy 
  • Thrive in a highly dynamic, fluid, collegial environment 
  • Can work both independently and collaboratively
  • Model integrity, honesty, truthfulness, and compassion 
  • Willingness to travel

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary range of $70,000- $80,000 commensurate with experience.
