Position: Part-Time Math Specialist (Grades 3–5)

Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School, a Community Jewish Day School, seeks an experienced, energetic, flexible, and talented Math Specialist to join our faculty for the 2026 - 2027 school year. The successful candidate will be professional and collaborative, possess personal and professional integrity, and be enthusiastic about participating in our community of lifelong learners.

This is a part-time position, working 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., teaching three small, skill-based mathematics groups in Grades 3, 4, and 5 using the Math in Focus curriculum based on Singapore Math.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Teach three to four mathematics groups daily in Grades 3, 4, and 5 using the Math in Focus curriculum.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that promote conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Assess student progress using both formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instruction.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and administrators to support student learning and achievement.
  • Establish and maintain high standards for student engagement, participation, and academic excellence.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress through conferences, written reports, and other correspondence.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide activities as appropriate.
  • Support students' social, emotional, and academic growth in a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and valid teaching credential (or equivalent qualifications).
  • Experience teaching elementary mathematics, preferably in Grades 3–5
  • Familiarity with Singapore Math and/or the Math in Focus curriculum preferred.
  • Strong understanding of elementary math content, instructional best practices, and differentiated instruction.
  • Experience with assessment, both formative and summative.
  • Strong technology skills for communication, instruction, and student assessment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
  • Flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous professional growth.
  • A passion for helping students develop confidence, curiosity, and a love of mathematics.

Compensation: $30 to $35 per hour plus full benefits
