Candidates should be located in or willing to relocate to the Greater Washington (DC, MD, and Northern VA) region. Position Overview: 

Federation’s Community Campaign Manager is a key member of the Financial Resource Development (FRD) team, working to increase Federation’s donor base and support an annual campaign of more than $52M annually through multi-channel direct marketing efforts and community-wide initiatives.    He/she/they will be a thoughtful and creative leader who thrives in finding the balance between the “art and science” of fundraising.  Working in collaboration with a cross-departmental team, the Community Campaign Manager will craft solicitation and stewardship communications for various donor audiences, implement data-driven strategies, and develop innovative annual campaign initiatives to acquire and convert new donors to Federation.  
Primary Responsibilities: 

Multi-Channel Direct Marketing: 

  • Serve as the key strategist and project manager for all direct marketing efforts pertaining to acquisition and retention of Community Donors, including, direct mail, telemarketing, text campaigns and e-solicitations 


  • Lead writer for all community campaign communications, including but not limited to: direct mail copy, e-solicitations, telemarketing scripts, donor stewardship + acquisition campaigns, acknowledgements and other pieces as needed  


  • Develop, execute and maintain the direct marketing production calendar to include timing of direct mail, e-solicitations, text, telemarketing and other broad fundraising campaigns 


  • Work in collaboration with the Marketing + Communications team, provide the vision for all direct marketing packages and campaigns, such as graphics, inserts, letter and envelope formats, sizes, designs, etc in support of the campaign messaging 


  • Liaison with each direct marketing vendor (mail house, telemarketing firm, texting platform), managing the personal relationships and over-seeing their respective business processes, ie: project proposals, contracts, invoicing, proofing work, requesting reports/analysis as relevant. 


  • Serve on Federation’s inter-departmental “CRM Super-Users” team, to be part of a forward-thinking solution-oriented group that creates and implements data best practices to be applied across the organization. 


  • Work to establish and track fundraising metrics regularly and provides quarterly analytic reports. 


  • Partner closely with Development Assistant, Direct Marketing for all administrative support of the Direct Marketing program, including list/data pulls, segmentation, package proofing, invoicing, and budget tracking 


Annual Campaign Initiatives: 

  • Envision, design and implement Annual Campaign efforts for donors across all FRD divisions, including but not limited to: Donor Appreciation, Giving Week, “Match Month,” and Giving Tuesday. 
  • Develop fundraising initiatives, communications and/or programming in-line with Federation’s community-wide initiatives such as “Israel @ 75” or “PJ Library’s 10th Anniversary.” 
  • Support and lead community-wide campaigns including Federation’s annual Staff Campaign, Board of Directors campaign, Partner Agency campaign and pilot community campaign initiatives with local synagogues and grant recipient organizations. 
  • Lead a cohort of volunteers lay leaders who personally solicit gifts from community members, providing them with training, resources, and managing “phone-a-thon” at key times of year.  
  • Keep abreast of pertinent community issues, campaign innovations and trends and acts nimbly to pivot strategies or create new campaign opportunities as they arise.  

Donor Acquisition, Acknowledgement, and Stewardship: 

  • Create and implement stewardship strategy for donors and prospects who engage with Federation through community-wide events.   
  • Draft communications for key segments of donors including the “Roots Society,” Federation’s longest-giving donors and Federation’s volunteer Ambassador corp.  
  • Build and grow Federation’s Sustainer Society for monthly givers.   
  • Partner with the Senior Director, Campaign Strategy and Management on processes for acknowledgments, billing reminders, personal pledge fulfillment outreach, data hygiene, data appends, list rental, and more. 


Qualifications and Experience: 

  • 3 - 5 years of successful annual campaign fundraising experience, preferably with communications and/or direct marketing background 
  • Proven ability with persuasive copy writing for fundraising purposes 
  • Leader and team player with the ability to build, nurture and develop positive relationships within the organization and in the community 
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred 
  • Knowledge of development, fundraising and direct mail operations 
  • Analytically minded with capacity to interpret data  
  • First-hand knowledge of the Jewish community, its customs and practices 
  • Working knowledge of computers and software as required, including proficiency in MS Office Suite
