Bnai Keshet Reconstructionist synagogue in Montclair, NJ seeks a Religious School Director to begin on or about August 1, 2026 for the 5787 program year (2026-2027 Bet Midrash Year).

Bnai Keshet is an inclusive and dynamic congregation of approximately 300 families. Founded in 1978, our name—Children of the Rainbow—reflects our vision and our values. Our purpose is to create a supportive, caring, and inclusive community that will: (1) foster Jewish religious and spiritual life, observance, and culture; (2) provide a stimulating environment for Jewish learning from early childhood to late adulthood; and (3) commit itself to Tikkun Olam/repair of the world.

Bnai Keshet’s Bet Midrash is our K-7 Religious School program that builds to, culminates with, and includes Bnai Mitzvah preparation. It is fully staffed with experienced teachers and a talented song leader. Bet Midrash meets on Shabbat mornings and one afternoon and one evening per week, and enrolls approximately 90 students.

The Interim Religious School Director will work under the supervision and guidance of the Rabbi, who is Bnai Keshet’s former Rabbi-Educator and Director of Congregational Learning, and in partnership with Executive Director and lay leadership (including the Vice President for Education). The Interim Religious School Director will be principally responsible for running the Bet Midrash, including managing the Bet Midrash’s operations, leading its approximately 12 adult staff and madrikhimot (teen classroom volunteer assistants), implemeting its established curriculum, facilitating its programming, and communicating with Bet Midrash families. This may include performing related administrative functions necessary for effective educational programming.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience with synagogue school education and management; strong connection to and familiarity with Jewish religion, customs, education and culture; and supportive academic credentials. We seek a skilled and warm communicator who can provide a calm, steady presence in a transition year for our synagogue. Full-time availability and knowledge and understanding of Reconstructng Judaism preferred.

Compensation $65k-$85k (for full-time position) or $40k-$75k (for part-time position) based on experience, with benefits negotiable.

Applications. We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis and encourage early submission.  The Interim Religious School Director will start employment as near as possible to August 1, 2026.  To apply, please email a resume and cover letter to Executive Director Mark Bograd ([email protected]).   Bnai Keshet is an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
