About Berman Hebrew Academy

Berman Hebrew Academy is an Orthodox Co-Educational Day School that provides a comprehensive Jewish and secular education in an atmosphere of reverence, good citizenship, and love of the Jewish people and Israel. Adhering to standards of academic excellence and exemplary moral conduct, it prepares its graduates to become Halachically observant, well-educated Jews. It provides opportunities for each student to achieve the maximum of his or her potential, engaged with, and contributing to both the Jewish community and the society at large.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate, attentive, and proactive individual to serve as a one-on-one shadow for a middle school student with learning differences. The ideal candidate will provide in-class and out-of-class support, helping the student access curriculum, remain regulated and engaged, and build independence and confidence throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide continuous, discreet support throughout the school day, both in academic classes and during transitions or non-academic periods (e.g. lunch, recess, electives).
  • Support the student's executive functioning needs, including organization, task initiation, following multi-step directions, and managing time.
  • Scaffold and clarify instruction and assignments to ensure the student can access the curriculum in coordination with classroom teachers and learning support staff.
  • Provide emotional and behavioral support as needed, helping the student stay focused, calm, and appropriately social with peers.
  • Encourage independence while recognizing when intervention or redirection is needed.
  • Maintain communication with the learning support team and parents and participate in regular check-ins or team meetings.
  • Track and document relevant observations to support goal tracking and learning plans.
  • Collaborate with teachers to occasionally support other students in the classroom when appropriate, while maintaining primary responsibility for the assigned student.
  • Participate in general school responsibilities such as recess/lunch duty or hallway supervision, as assigned.
  • When the assigned student is absent, assist with classroom support tasks or other school-based responsibilities as directed by administration or the learning support team.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with learning disabilities or neurodiverse profiles preferred.
  • Background in education, psychology, or a related field is helpful but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a supportive demeanor.
  • Ability to follow the lead of professionals while exercising independent judgment in the moment.
  • Collaborative and flexible approach to working within a school setting.
  • Working knowledge of Judaics and Hebrew is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move around a school campus throughout the day.
  • Stamina to work full school days while maintaining high levels of focus and support.
