Job Opening: Director of Youth Education
The Director of Youth Education is responsible for providing overall vision and leadership for Temple Shalom’s educational programs. This includes directing all aspects ofour Preschool, Religious School, and Youth Programs. This position will work in collaboration with the Rabbi and Executive Director.
This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Executive Director. TheDirector of Youth Education will work directly with the Education Committee and the Rabbi for curriculum and planning. This requires close working relationships withteaching staff, committees, and our families.
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as the Youth Education professional of Temple Shalom.
Administer the Religious School (pre-K through Bnai-Mitzvah) that meets two days per week on Sundays and Tuesdays and the Preschool that meets five weekday mornings.
Serve as resource, materials, and management coordinator for youth education.
Responsible for administrative records, including attendance, class rosters, service participation, calendar, assessments, and schedule of classes. Prepare individual tutoring plans (ITP) as needed.
Coordinate family education, student-led services, Bnai-Mitzvah, and holiday celebrations during the school year. Implement educational programs on High Holy Days and Jewish holidays during the year.
Develop and administer a comprehensive curriculum for the schools with the input of the Education Committee, Rabbi, and Executive Director.
Identify and initiate educational program development opportunities in accordance with the Temple Shalom Strategic Plan and contemporary Jewish education resources.
Supervise resources — both staff and space — to assure that Temple Shalom is a place where Jewish life and learning is embraced and celebrated.
Assess staffing needs and work with the Executive Director to hire preschool and religious school staff.
Recruit, train, supervise, and support teachers, substitutes, madrichim, tutors, and volunteers.
Monitor classroom activity, lessons, and goals. Provide observation and feedback throughout the year.
Ensure teaching cadre and volunteers are oriented to Temple Shalom policies and procedures. Evaluate teachers and update employment files.
Collaborate with the Parent Teacher Organization.
Attend all meetings of the Education Committee.
Maintain consistent and open communications with staff, parents, members, and interested community members.
Create and coordinate with the Office Coordinator communications and marketing needs.
Prepare the annual education budget worksheet in coordination with the Executive Director and the chairs of the Education and Budget and Finance committees.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is a friendly, dynamic, creative, and engaging Jewish professional with experience working with students and parents from preschool through Bnai-Mitzvah.
The successful candidate will serve as a Jewish role model for our community, embrace the values of the congregation, and be a proven leader who will nurture and grow our educational program.
Minimum credentials:
• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field (Master’s Degree preferred) • Solid Judaic knowledge and background to facilitate lifelong learning• Two years of administrative experience• Experience will be considered in lieu of educational background Duration: Full-time position
Salary Range: $48,000 - $55,000 annually, depending on credentials and experience Benefits: Paid holidays, complimentary membership and tuition, and flexible time off Experience: 2 years minimumDegree: Bachelors or advanced degree
