Early Childhood Center Teacher Assistant

Hours: 8:00 AM 3:30pm or 4:00 PM daily 

Age Group: 2–5 years

Compensation: $20-$25/hr

Position Overview
The Assistant Teacher is a warm, nurturing, and dependable member of the classroom team who helps create a safe, joyful, and engaging environment for young children. Working closely with the Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher supports children's learning, care, and daily routines while actively participating in all aspects of classroom life.

Key Responsibilities:

Create a Safe & Supportive Environment

• Ensure the safety, well-being, and active supervision of children at all times.
• Follow all health, safety, and licensing requirements.
• Support smooth transitions and consistent daily routines.
• Respond promptly and thoughtfully to children's needs.

Build Meaningful Relationships

• Develop warm, caring relationships with children and families.
• Help children feel welcomed, valued, and secure.
• Support positive peer interactions and a sense of classroom community.

Support Learning Through Play

• Actively engage with children during indoor and outdoor play experiences.
• Encourage curiosity, creativity, independence, and problem-solving.
• Support learning experiences planned by the teaching team.
• Be present and engaged with children rather than supervising from a distance.

Support Social-Emotional Growth

• Model kindness, empathy, and respectful communication.
• Help children navigate emotions, friendships, and conflicts.
• Use positive guidance strategies to support appropriate behavior.

Care for Daily Routines

• Support snack, lunch, toileting, rest time, and transitions.
• Encourage independence while providing assistance when needed.
• Help maintain a calm, predictable, and nurturing environment.

Maintain the Classroom Environment

• Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and organization.
• Prepare and care for classroom materials and learning spaces.
• Help create a welcoming and well-maintained environment for children.

Collaborate as a Team Member

• Work closely with Lead and Associate Teachers.
• Communicate openly and respectfully with colleagues and families.
• Take initiative while following classroom expectations and routines.
• Contribute positively to the school community.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 12 ECE units or currently enrolled in ECE coursework.
• Experience working with young children is preferred.
• Warm, patient, and collaborative approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexible, reliable, and eager to learn.

Additional Expectations

• Provide classroom coverage or substitute support when requested.
• Attend Teacher Orientation Week, Back-to-School Night, faculty meetings, professional development days, and other required school events.
