Job Title: Pedagogista

Department: Resnick ECC

Supervisor: Rachel Sherman, Head of School

Location: Brentwood, CA

Position Type: Full-Time; or Split Role 12-month position, exempt

Salary: $70,500-$75,000/annual for full-time (includes teaching responsibilities)

The position could also be part-time, without teaching responsibilities, at a prorated salary.

Start date: August 17, 2026

 

Position Overview:

The role of the Pedagogista, a position that originated in the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, supports and sustains the creation of an inquiry-based learning environment, and collaborates with classroom educators to document and reflect on students’ explorations. As an educational coach, the Pedagogista supports the educators in developing an emergent curriculum that emphasizes children's agency and critical thinking.  Based on the belief that children are capable and competent and are the protagonists of their own learning, the Pedagogista fosters curiosity, co-constructing learning,  and thought partnership among the educators, administrators, and parents.

 

About Resnick Family Early Childhood Center:

The Resnick Family Early Childhood Center offers a developmental preschool experience for 2- to 5-year-old children and a robust Baby and Me program for babies and toddlers. The program challenges and empowers all children to learn and grow in a loving, nurturing, and educationally stimulating environment. We provide child-centered experiences in language arts, science, math, art, music, movement, gardening, cooking, and Jewish learning. We joyfully celebrate the holidays together, and live Jewish values and traditions within the Wilshire community. Our educational approach combines the best practices in early childhood development, inspired by Reggio Emilia and the constructivist approach. The Resnick Family ECC offers more than a school - it is a community in which all families and children find their home and create lifelong friendships.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Implementation of the Schools’ Pedagogical Vision

  • Serve as a thought leader and advocate for the schools’ pedagogical vision, ensuring that all teaching and learning reflect the values and philosophy of the leadership team.
  • Guide educators in integrating Jewish values, traditions, holiday celebrations, and a strong sense of  Jewish identity into the curriculum in an authentic and developmentally appropriate way, and infuse the environment with artifacts that support these goals.
  • Through weekly planning sessions, support teachers as researchers, children as protagonists, and the environment as the third teacher to promote learning for our students, educators, and community.  
  • In collaboration with the Site Directors, create and maintain a schedule that allows them to observe in all classrooms and meet with all teams in an equitable manner.
  • Partner with the classroom educators to document the learning process and to use the documentation to inform curriculum planning on a daily and weekly basis. 
  • Partner with classroom educators and with the Atelierista on each campus to utilize the documentation process to “make the learning visible” in the classrooms, the hallways, and through newsletters and other communications channels.
  • Partner with the administration of the Centers to articulate the educational philosophy and approach in concise and clear language to share with the community, and with current and prospective parents and faculty.
  • Collaborate with the Atelierista to develop and maintain the aesthetics of the Campus to reflect the Reggio and constructivist principles.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to develop and execute strategic initiatives that enhance educational excellence and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with other Pedagogistas within Wilshire as thought partners, to share ideas and learn from each other, and create programming and brand consistency throughout the ECC in all campuses.

 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred. Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in early childhood education, with leadership or mentorship experience.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, play-based learning, and Reggio Emilia-inspired pedagogy.
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to Jewish early childhood education, with experience integrating Jewish values, traditions, and holidays into curriculum. Being open and committed to seeking sources of professional development to enhance one's own understanding of Jewish traditions and holidays
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple campuses and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with pedagogical documentation and reflective teaching practices.

Work Schedule & Travel:

  • This position requires you to provide consistent, on site, support.  In general, the pedagogista’s schedule may be altered at the direction and discretion of the head of school or their designees.  Attend all the Professional Development sessions at the Mann or Resnick campuses, every other Friday. 
  • Some evening or weekend hours may be required for professional development, parent events, or community programs, and to complete documentation work.
  • Participation in community-wide events as needed;
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and to seeking out Professional Development opportunities, both local and beyond.

 

Compensation: 

  • $70,500-$75,000/annual for full-time (includes teaching responsibilities)
    • The position could also be part-time, without teaching responsibilities, at a prorated salary
