About Mensch Lab

Mensch Lab is the religious school of Old York Road Temple-Beth Am, where we inspire children to become knowledgeable, compassionate, and engaged Jewish adults. Through hands-on learning, meaningful relationships, creativity, and joyful Jewish experiences, we help students develop a strong Jewish identity while living the values of kindness, respect, curiosity, and community.

Position Summary

We are seeking enthusiastic, creative, and caring educators who are passionate about Jewish learning and enjoy working with children. Mensch Lab teachers create engaging classroom experiences that encourage students to explore Jewish traditions, values, Hebrew, holidays, history, and culture in meaningful and age-appropriate ways.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging lessons aligned with the Mensch Lab curriculum.
  • Foster a warm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where every student feels valued.
  • Build positive relationships with students and their families.
  • Encourage curiosity, discussion, creativity, and active participation.
  • Integrate Jewish values and traditions into classroom experiences.
  • Collaborate with clergy, the Education Director, fellow teachers, and madrichim (teen teaching assistants).
  • Maintain regular communication with families regarding classroom activities and student progress.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as requested.
  • Help prepare students for family education programs and holiday celebrations.
  • Promote respectful behavior and model positive Jewish values. 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Reform Judaism and Jewish traditions.
  • Experience working with children in an educational, camp, youth group, or similar setting.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences.

Schedule

  • Sunday mornings during the school year (September-May).
  • Weekday evening opportunities available.
  • Additional preparation time as needed.
