Germantown Jewish Centre (GJC) is searching for a creative and dynamic service leader to coordinate and lead our Jr. Congregation for the 2022-23 | 5783 school year. GJC’s Jr. Congregation is a weekly Shabbat morning service for kids geared toward grades 1-6. While the primary goal is to build familiarity and comfort with the structure and content of the service, there is a lot of room for out-of-the-box ideas and fun new formats that will bring meaning and spirituality to our young people.
The ideal candidate would be a “kid magnet”, have a strong familiarity with and appreciation of Jewish prayer, and excel at building relationships with kids and families. The Jr. Congregation leader will work to promote the service to families and encourage students to take on leadership roles within the service. There are approximately 35 services per year.
About the Germantown Jewish Centre
Germantown Jewish Centre (GJC) is a Conservative congregation in the heart of Philadelphia’s West Mount Airy neighborhood that serves Northwest Philadelphia’s multifaceted Jewish community. Our religious school is geared towards students (K-7) from all of GJC’s minyanim, including Dorshei Derekh (a Reconstructionist affiliate) and Minyan Masorti (a traditional egalitarian minyan). We proudly embrace the racial, ethnic, and gender diversity of our staff, students and their families. We welcome multiracial, interfaith, and LGBT families, and we are committed to the inclusion of students with special needs. The diversity of our families enriches our community and our children’s learning.
Through the study of Jewish texts and engaging with the full range of Jewish traditions, arts and cultures, the GJC Religious School seeks to inspire our students with Jewish wisdom that will help them navigate the difficult and joyous aspects of life. GJC Religious School paves the way for young Jews to become Jewish adults who understand and embody the values that express the core values of GJC and underlie our work together.
