The Birmingham Jewish Federation is our Jewish Community’s central fundraising, community relations, and community development agency. We are dedicated to enriching Jewish life, supporting Israel, helping all people in need, and building a better Birmingham.

Our mission is to ensure a vibrant, inclusive Jewish community in Birmingham connected to Jews in Israel and around the world.

The Program & Engagement Associate is a vital part of our team who engages our community’s young adults to build the next generation of philanthropic-minded leaders and connects the community to our work in order to further our mission.  

Programs & Engagement Associate – (40 Hours)

Responsibilities

  • You Belong in Birmingham (YBIB)
    • Recruits & Coordinates YBIB Committee (with Agency/Synagogue Staff) Including Meeting Coordination & Preparation
    • Works With YBIB Committee to Plan and Implement Events & Programs on a Yearly Basis
      • To Include Social, Networking, Hands-On, & Young Leadership Programs Through a Jewish & Birmingham Community Lens
      • Maintains Budget for Programming
    • Grows & Maintains YBIB Group
      • Facilitates connections between YBIB members
      • Facilitates & provides low barrier connections between Agency/Synagogues & YBIB members
      • Maintains a relationship with Hillel Connections
      • Works with the Sr. Leadership on relevant Shalom Birmingham connections

 

  • Young Leadership
    • Manages & Works with YL Development Committee to Research & Plan Curriculum
    • Coordinates Dates, Locations, & Speakers. Manages & Attends Sessions
    • Recruits & Manages Young Leadership Cohort

 

  • BBYO
    • Inspires & Support Teens by Creating Leadership Development Opportunities
    • Recruits, Supervises, Trains, & Develops Volunteer Advisors for the Chapters in Birmingham
    • Oversees all Aspects of the Local Programs & Works with the Birmingham Chapter Boards, Advisors, Parents, & Community Stakeholders. Partners with Jewish Community Agencies & Participates in Programming that is Relative to the Teen Population 
    • Assist Birmingham chapters in implementing movement-wide initiatives. 
    • Staff & Help coordinate transportation for Birmingham teens to and from Regional Conventions
    • Communicate with parents and keep them informed about local and regional events as well as BBYO summer domestic and travel opportunities
    • Participate in professional development and other programmatic pieces that will add meaning to the local BBYO program
    • Help build a pipeline of middle school students that are ready to join BBYO in the 8thgrade

 

  • Social Media, Marketing, & Website Maintenance
    • Creates a Social Media Marketing Plan for the Year that Promotes Our Mission, Accomplishments, & Brand
    • Publishes Approved Content on Various Media Platforms, Including Facebook, Instagram, & Website
    • Monitors Social Media Channels for Comments & Messages, & Responds in a Timely Manner
    • Analyzes Social Media Performance & Provides Insights to the Staff Team to Help Optimize Social Media Strategy
    • Stays Up-to-Date with Social Media, Website Trends, & Best Practices to Ensure Content is Relevant & Engaging
    • Updates Websites & Creates Content
    • Creates Marketing Materials as Needed
    • Organizes & Publishes Weekly Emails & Newsletters as Needed

Job Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience creating, designing, and developing innovative programming including implementation and growth.
  • Self-starter with comfort in taking initiative.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, lay leaders, and program participants. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of Jewish values and traditions. Ability to work comfortably with all parts of the Jewish community.
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work some weekend and evening hours and holiday-appropriate responsibilities on the Jewish holidays.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Microsoft Office Suite, and be comfortable with other fundraising-specific software. Experience with InDesign and/or Canva a plus.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and optimization.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree preferred.
