Congregation Or Ami is seeking a motivated team player to join our community as a Part Time Jewish Studies Teacher for the 2024 - 2025 School Year. Or Ami Religious School works to create an inclusive and nurturing Jewish community. Our Religious School cultivates learning spaces where our students are engaged and collaborative in the learning process.  Students have the opportunity to develop their own Jewish identities while building meaningful connections and developing a sense of community.  We often include family members in Jewish learning and invite them to participate in programs that will bridge the learning between school and home.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide engaging instruction of Jewish studies, Holidays, mitzvot, Holocaust studies, and Jewish Life Cycle for 5th and 6th graders.
  • Partner proactively with faculty to support diverse learners in the areas of academic, behavioral, and social/emotional learning
  • Participate in community programs that include Religious School students
  • Observe and evaluate individual students displaying academic or behavioral difficulties and assess their learning strengths and challenges.
  • Collaborate with grade-level team members to plan and implement instruction, fostering student curiosity and engagement • Coordinate and facilitate communication between student, family, and school
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Educational Director
  • Communicate with parents and Education Director on a regular basis

Job Qualifications:

  • Have a strong knowledge of developmental needs of young children and appropriate curricula that meet those needs.
  • Familiarity with Jewish observances, traditions, and rituals
  • A basic knowledge of Hebrew and ability to teach the meanings of Jewish prayer
  • A working knowledge of and interest in Judaism, Jewish texts, rituals, traditions, and values
  • Ability to craft lesson plans designed to engage students in the exploration of Jewish life and their Jewish identities
  • Ability to craft lesson plans deeply rooted in Jewish tradition and relevant to students' contemporary lives
  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • High-energy and enthusiasm about working in the Religious School atmosphere
  • Familiarity with the following is preferred, but not required: teaching Hebrew as a second language, teaching in a pluralistic setting, working with children in grades K-5, Responsive Classroom trainings

Compensation: $22-$55 commensurate on education and experience
