Data Operations Manager

The Jewish Education Project
 New York, NY

Opportunity for Impact

At The Jewish Education Project, we believe Jewish education must evolve to meet the needs of today’s youth and families. As our organization grows, so does our need to harness data in smarter, more strategic ways. We’re seeking a Data Operations Manager to help us fully realize the potential of Salesforce and other core systems that power our work.

This is a key role on our Operations team, offering the chance to shape how a legacy nonprofit leverages data to drive mission-aligned impact. You’ll join a highly collaborative environment where data is not just about numbers—it’s about insight, storytelling, and transformation.

About the role

The Data Operations Manager is a full-time position reporting to the Managing Director, Data Systems and Strategy. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and optimization of our data infrastructure—including Salesforce, Azure Data Warehouse, Pardot, Tableau, and FormAssembly.

You’ll ensure data quality, generate reports, build dashboards, and support teams across the organization in using data to track progress, improve outcomes, and tell our story. The ideal candidate has foundational technical experience (especially in Salesforce and/or SQL), strong problem-solving skills, and a desire to grow their expertise in nonprofit data strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Database & Systems Management

- Ensure data quality and integrity across platforms by performing regular deduplication, cleaning, QA, and testing.
 - Maintain, update, and troubleshoot Salesforce, Pardot, Tableau, FormAssembly, and our Azure Data Warehouse.
 - Write SQL queries for data retrieval, manipulation, and reporting.
 - Conduct regular system backups and document processes for data handling and platform use.
 - Optimize system performance and resolve data issues in collaboration with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors.

Reporting & User Support

- Build and maintain custom reports and dashboards for program teams, grants, communications, and executive leadership.
 - Generate targeted lists and segments for communications, outreach, and marketing needs.
 - Support onboarding/offboarding of staff and manage user permissions, roles, and profiles in Salesforce.
 - Train staff on data systems and support a culture of data-informed decision making across the organization.
 - Act as day-to-day liaison for all information systems (IS) platforms and coordinate with vendors as needed.

New Data Projects & Initiatives

- Support the design and implementation of new tools and functionality that enable smarter, faster access to data.
 - Perform data migrations and mass uploads into Salesforce and our Data Warehouse from legacy systems and external sources.
 - Assist with data architecture and ongoing system development to meet evolving organizational needs.

About You

- At least 2 years of experience working with Salesforce (or comparable CRM) and/or SQL development.
 - Strong ability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries.
 - Familiarity with relational databases and concepts like normalization, data validation, and security.
 - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical terms for non-technical audiences.
 - Project management skills with a keen eye for detail, timelines, and follow-through.
 - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and general database management tools.
 - Comfort working both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred:

- Experience with Microsoft Azure, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), or Tableau.
 - Salesforce certifications (e.g., Administrator, Advanced Administrator, App Builder) or willingness to pursue certification while in the role.
 - Prior nonprofit or mission-driven work experience.

Ideal Candidates Will Also Be:

- Systems thinkers who see the big picture and how data fits into organizational strategy.
 - Fast learners when it comes to new technology and platforms.
 - Solutions-oriented, proactive, and excited by innovation.
 - Organized, adaptable, and ready to grow professionally.
 - Aligned with The Jewish Education Project’s mission and values.
